View Full Version : Airbrush! What to buy? Airbrush! What to buy? djmr2 08-02-2002, 12:36 AM gonna pick up a small compressor tommorow, was wondering what kind of airbrush i should get.... here's what i need it for -painting model kits.. (ALL OF IT, bodies, suspension, interior) -maybe fine lines? like for window trim etc... yeah i think that's about it also.. don't want a cheap one either, but i need it to withstand stuff like lacquers and stuff... Tamiya Single Action http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/74503hg_airbrush/hg_airbrush.htm Tamiya Trigger Stlye Double Action http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/74510hg_trigger/hg_trigger.htm any other good brushes out there?? i don't know if i really need a dual action, but it would be nice, i mean like i would figure, like when your doing a window trim you can just start spraying on a spot cuz u know where it's gonna shoot out cuz the air comes out first.. and slowly give it paint.. dunno... what do you guys use and recommend? thx don't want to spend a fortune either.. hirofkd 08-02-2002, 07:31 PM For car modeling, single action is enough, because most of the application is uniform, and it sprays large areas. Even air comes out first with a single action airbrush, and you can slowly spray paint. With a double action, you can also control the amount of airflow, so it's suitable for spotty camouflage or fine gradation for airplanes or tanks. Besides, I think both links you provided are double action. djmr2 08-02-2002, 07:49 PM thanks! i just found that they are both dual actions too!! i was looking at some Iwata Eclipses CS's and they're pretty good priced at $89shipped.. i checked out a AZTEK A4709 with everything lots of nozzles, and cups and crap for 109.. first thing i noticed when i picked it up... felt plasticy and cheap!! so... i dunno.. any other suggestions? Iwata Revolution maybe? around 100USD is my price range. daggerlee 08-02-2002, 08:00 PM The cheapest/best single action is the Paasche H ($39 for boxed set from www.dixieart.com if I believe, pick up some misc. accessories for $6 for $45 total to get free shipping!) I have an Iwata Revolution, and it's really good. One good thing about the double action is "touching" up car bodies. When I sand through to the primer, instead of spray painting that tiny little dot (now that's REALLY using a garden hose to water a house flower) I spray some paint into my cup and lightly airbrush over it. Works great. www.coastairbrush.com carries it, I dunno about other sites. It's a bit more expensive than the Paasche VL, the cheapest double action and best bang for your buck, I guess. I also notice that Iwata has released a $49 single action, which there really is no need for when you have a cheap alternative like the Paasche H. djmr2 08-03-2002, 03:09 AM hmmm yeah i think i might try out a IWATA REVOLUTION BCR... i don't think i'll be doing like crazy art or anything and the price seems good.. yeah i want to get a double action kinda for that reason.. wanna try and control the rate of paint also.. etc.. oh also... do i gotta buy a airhose for the brush? i bought one of those walmart campbell hausfeld fp2003 air compressors and it comes with a 25 foot hose already.. maybe some adapters?
