Cam sensor

I've run up across a 2000 deawoo which appears to have a DOHC e-tec motor in it, that was apparently having some kind of ticking problem before it got to me.

The owner took the car to autozone and they said it was a cam gear sensor.

Now the car is not starting at all and when I looked at it, the cams are not spinning but the belt is still intact. Since I have no experience with Deawoo's I have no idea what it could be. Hoping some one here could tell me what I might have to do to get this car running again.

I'd have to say that the belt is broken and you just don't see the break. Or the tensioner has backed WAY off so that the belt cannot pull the cam pullies. Far, far more likely to be the former. The ticking noise was probably the beginnings of the belt coming apart hitting the belt cover while running and now the belt has failed.

Hello ,i was in a friends car the other week and the engine just cut out on us and woudn't restart ,the engine had the ticking like yours just before it cut out.The belt was intacked as it was the first thing we looked at ,the recovery guy told him that the crack shaft had snapped and he should put it on ebay ,where i'm sure he would have bought it and fixed it.I have looked around the net and the cam gear sensor has come up a few times after very little searching.

well the cam sensor was a recall in the lanos so get that done if it already hasn't been. and if it is the belt or tensioner that broke then DO NOT try to start it. b/c then you'll just be messing up the pistons and valves since its an interference engine they will keep moving and jsut smash into each other. which can cost like $1500 for repairs.

The cam sensor has a recall but only for a certain lot number. Most of which do not fall under.

IF the the timing belt broke while running you are going to have bent valves.


MAJOR expense.
