Do the other gauges on the 1990 instrument panel ( speedometer, fuel, temp etc) still work with the sr20? or is it only the tach that needs to be replaced? id rather not switch to an aftermarket tach and keep it inside my panel. any easy ways of doing this? any help / comments would be greatly appreciated

for an SR swap you need a 91-94 guage cluster for everything to function properly (i.e. tach and speedo) it would just be a hassle to swap just the tach anyways.

FYI if you are swapping clusters you also need the cluster harness.

sounds like a pain..

how hard will this be , and how deep into my wallet am i gonna have to reach?

i was under the impression that merely popping off the tach wouldnt be to hard, as i believe that according to sportcompactcarweb's project silvia they state its only held on by three screws, which also double as signal inputs so no wire's need to be messed with.

are you 100% that the speedo wont work with the SR?

well...i could be wrong, but i know when you do a ka24de or a SR swap your suppose to swap the cluster out, becuase the gauges wont read right...this is why i said Swap clusters...thats only if you have a 89 or 90...if your 91-94 your good to go.

Clusters usually sell for like 50 bucks, and the harness's for around 30 bucks....so 70-80 bucks for both of them..

swaping the cluster (or tach) is the same process.

#1 take off panel below the dash, should be held on by i believe 4-6 screws, (make sure to thread your hood popper through the hole in this panel)

#2 (optional step) drop steering arm, this is easy and will make the whole process easier, this is held on by 2 nuts.

#3 unscrew the panel that your hazards, cruise control, ect are on, and pull that off. This will leave you with just the cluster left to pull (remember, there is a harness connected to this, so disconnect it)

#4 unscrew cluster from the actual dash, and pull it out be carefull of your turn signal stick, ect...unless you dropped the steering arm..this will be in the way.

#5 Disconnect cluster, and swap in new cluster...and do reverse to install it.

#6 IF your just swapping the tach...this is easy to, first pop off the clear plastic peace, which is held on by about 6 clips...then remove the black trim peace...again, held on by about 6-8 clips...this will leave you with the cluster panel itself...go to the back of the tach (or speed) and unscrew the 3 screws holding them in...and after that...reverse process to install

Hope this helps
