I have a 1975 F-250 Camper Special with a 460 under the hood. I have absolutely no knowledge of carburetors so I don't know what cfm I need or whatever. Right now it has a motorcraft carb on it, the stock one if you will. I am looking for something that might give it a little bit of a boot in the ass. As for exhaust, what is your opinion on what sounds the best? I want to shy away from flowmaster because I have heard they actually retrict flow. I saw a couple of flow through magnaflow mufflers that might be a good buy. Heck I don't know, I just need opinions. Is there anything that could make a 460 sound bad? Pfft, I don't thinks so. Thanks.

Unless you just want to spend 250-300$ on a carb, the old motorcrafts would perform pretty good once you got it jetted right, and played with the secondaries where they would open up right. But even if you buy a new one youll have to tune it for max performance and fuel economy. You can find out the cfm from the info in the kit you bought, its probably a 650, but they made several sizes i think. Once you put the headers and exhaust on it, youll need to jet it a little richer to get max benefit. Dont go too big, a few thousandths at a time till it performs well without bogging. Make sure ignition and timing is properly set before you start tuning the carb. If you buy a carb, the Holley 4160 is available for that application with vac. secondaries, and ford kickdown linkage. The holley is easier to tune than the motorcraft, and overall, will perform better. Jets kits are available, or you can invest in a drill kit
as far as the mufflers, flowmaster makes several types, and all will flow better than stock. I dont care for their sound, but thats a matter of personal opinion, and if you ask 100 people youll probably get 100 answers. Just run 3inch all the way, stick with a good name brand, and look at the warranty. Check with the local muffler shop, they usually have a motorhead or two working that can give you some advice. Good luck.

Thanks Ed. I have looked into buying a carb kit for it and talked to some people at a local engine shop. Headers, 3in. exhaust, and maybe magnaflows will be the next thing.
