1995 Camry quits in reverse??Folkenfannel 06-07-2006, 08:58 AM Hey and thanks in advance, My 1995 Camry LE has quit while in reverse twice in the last month. The first time I was backing out of the drive when it quit, without notice. I couldn't start it and had it towed to the dealer. They had it for two days because they couln't find a problem. They gave it back no charge. Well today it quit again, same place as I was backing up and again it was hard to start but it did eventually. I have tried tonight to duplicate it a dozen times and it never fails. The tach reads about 900 in park and 7-800 in reverse (without A.C ON). Any ideas on what I should do to correct this? My wife drives it too and I don't want her stranded. I talked to the dealer agian today and they have no solution until it quits altogether....errrrrr don't really want to wait for that... ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks Folken somick 06-07-2006, 03:22 PM My old chevy had been doing the same thing. But it never had any tune up done. How about your spark plugs, wires etc? Sam folken 06-07-2006, 03:38 PM My old chevy had been doing the same thing. But it never had any tune up done. It operates fine except for the two recent occurences.................Folken DFBonnett 06-07-2006, 03:58 PM I'm wondering if the "reverse" is just coincidence and there is actually another common denominator. Was the car cold both times? Was it raining or dry? I'd check all the connections in and around the distributor, coil, and igniter for integrity. Did anything else go out when it shut off? I'm thinking about a possible intermittent fault on a relay such as for the fuel pump or main. FWIW YMMV folken 06-07-2006, 04:46 PM I'm wondering if the "reverse" is just coincidence and there is actually another common denominator. Was the car cold both times? Was it raining or dry? I'm thinking about a possible intermittent fault on a relay such as for the fuel pump or main. FWIW YMMV It wasn't too cold or hot- and yeah it's only happened when reverseing out of the drive. I will check all the connections in and around the distributor, coil, and igniter for integrity.....tks.....Folken AccordCodger 06-07-2006, 09:47 PM How much of a slope? Uphill or down? Maybe that's a factor. folken 06-08-2006, 08:42 AM How much of a slope? Uphill or down? Maybe that's a factor. Slope is fairly flat so I don't think this is it, tks anyhow......Folken folken 06-09-2006, 07:35 AM It wasn't too cold or hot- and yeah it's only happened when reverseing out of the drive.
