Hey there, I have a 93 grand am quad 4 runs like a hot damn until recently. Drive around for awhile (10 min.) get to a stop sign she wants to die in order to keep it running you have to put it in first (auto tranny) to slow down and to take off. Pull into the drive way go to put it in reverse and it dies, starts up again beutifully put you put it in reverse or drive and it will die. Let it sit for about 20 min. and will go into gear fine. Also when it does die going into reverse or drive if you go from park to first it will stay running and just work your way through the gears. Whats up!

I had the same problem. Try unplugging the TCC (transaxle converter clutch). It is a plug located on the top of your transmission towards the front.
Unplug that and give it a try. I bet that solves the problem. If so, you will need to replace it.

Happened to me and I replaced coil pack housing (notorious for going out on these cars) and problem solved...nothing to do with tranny...for me anyway.
