rpm activated switchNuEra 07-30-2002, 01:37 PM OK, this is like the 5th thread I made on this. I cant seem to get the information I need, I have a rpm activated switch which Im hooking to a LED light to use as a shift light. The rpm activated switch has; -white wire = going to tach wire by distributer -black wire = going to ground -red wire going to 12 v source ( I wired to the back of the accesory socket to the yellow wire ) -yellow wire to LED bulb. ( the other side of the bulb is the problem) The LED bulb has two prongs, the one is hooked to the rpm switch and the other side requires a +12 wire. I hooked it to the same wire as I did for the red wire, the accesory wire, right beside it. Is this hook up correct, because it didnt work, if not, which +12v wire should I hook it to? luti 07-30-2002, 05:32 PM Are you sure the yellow wire isn't sending 12v when its activated? If so then the other end of the LED should be going to ground. There is one other possibility, you have the LED wired backwards. Unlike light bulbs LED's are directional. You can only run power in one side and ground out the other, if you reverse it nothing will happen. Try swapping the connections around. NuEra 07-30-2002, 08:12 PM Good info! Do you know how the LED lets you know, because they come with one side longer than the other. Ill try swapping anyway. I know there is current because I used a test light. The other thing is, do you think splicing into the same wire twice is ok??, because thats what I'm doing(one spice to the rpm switch and the other to a side of the LED). thanks luti 07-30-2002, 09:48 PM Usually the long side of the LED gets the 12v. I think. But, if the wire from the switch to the LED has 12v then the other end of the LED must just be connected to any ground. Splicing into a wire twice is fine, its even easier if you just use one splice and put all the connections at that point. 94hatchsi 07-30-2002, 11:01 PM where did you find the rpm activated switch and if you got it from a website would you mind posting a link or something thanks NuEra 07-30-2002, 11:06 PM sure,I got it from racer parts wholesale (http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/sftlight.htm) , it doesnt look like like much, but it should work. NuEra 07-31-2002, 01:48 PM Finally, it works! luti 07-31-2002, 09:19 PM Ok, I've been thinking about doing this same mod myself for quite some time. Which wires did you connect to where? How much was the switch? Where did you put the LED? NuEra 07-31-2002, 11:20 PM OK, I know I did a good thing now that I made the guide on how to do it. Luti, go to the interior forum to find the how to I made on this. The RPM switch is like $50 and an LED from radio shack cant be more than $2. So what you get is a shift light for $52. I put the LED on the bezzle around the gauge cluster, where there was nothing behind it. Just cut a hole and they make LEDs that snap right in, it looks great, and low profile.(I.E. sleeper and is original rather than the big junker lights on the market) Ill get a pic as soon as possible but for now check out that guide. Write if you have any questions. NuEra 07-31-2002, 11:27 PM Heres my LEDs, Vtec and shift light. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
