93 Camry died when in driveTexasGypsy 06-03-2006, 01:54 PM My Camry has 167,000 on it and untill now ran great. I was driving and it started to surge buy the time I got it home it died in drive. Backfired before it died. Put it in park and it started right back up and idled juast fine...but at 2000rpm which its be idling this for about a week. Is it possible it is the throttle sensor. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance Well i went back out and it cranked and idled at a perfect 750. Put it in drive pulled out of the driveway applied the gas and it died. Now it doesnt want to crank at all. TexasGypsy 06-03-2006, 02:44 PM now it doesnt want to crank...any ideas ice745 06-03-2006, 07:35 PM Have you checked the ignition system, wires, plugs, coil, distributor? Maybe the throttle body needs to be cleaned, or maybe a clogged fuel injector. Is it not cranking at all, or is it just not turning over? If its not cranking at all, check the battery and alternator. At least thats where I'd start, I don't know much past that. TexasGypsy 06-03-2006, 10:56 PM It was just not turning over. Now its running great except the high idle. Turned out to be the fuel sending unit. What didnt add up was the fact that it ran great in reverse...but put it in drive and it would just shut down. Any ideas on the high idle. Thanks so much for your help. ice745 06-04-2006, 12:22 AM I had a high idle at one point at 2k RPM. It was right after I had a fuel filter replaced on my 94 Camry. It only lasted a few days tho. In Park and Neutral it would idle at 2k, but in gear it'd be at 800. It made me nervous and I wanted to keep it from 2k, so one time I started it, and right after I started it I put it in gear immediately, and the engine almost stalled, it went down to like 200 RPM for a second, and then I put it in neutral to let it get back up and it only went back up to 800, and was fine since. I don't know if what I did fixed it, or something else. In my case tho, it was just dumb luck, I really have no idea why it was high idling or how that would have fixed it. DFBonnett 06-04-2006, 09:10 AM TG, I'd clean the throttle body and the IAC (Idle Ar Control) valve first. TexasGypsy 06-04-2006, 10:53 AM Thanks so much for both or your replys! Ill give it try. kcg795 06-05-2006, 04:07 AM Check your air intake hose for tears. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
