turbocharger into a 5.3L gas silveradochevysilv1500 06-02-2006, 08:49 PM I have a 1999 5.3L 4X4 1500 silverado. Im looking at doing some efficiency upgrades now that I can. The right turbo charger can give me better milage when driving right and power when driving fun, but what sized turbo should I get? Im thinking I need something with an A/R of .63. I dont want a shit ton of HP boost bc i dont want to spend a bunch of money on putting in stronger parts for the power increase, so im trying to hit around 8-10 psi at about 3000 rpm. Has anyone done this and/or does anyone (diesel guys) know what I should be looking for?? NoRiceHere01 06-03-2006, 02:31 AM not that i have all the experience here with power adders but i think i would actually suggest a centrifugal blower(belt driven). theyre a bit more common for these types of engines and companies like vortech make bolt on kits for a couple thousand.(last time i checked thats about how much they were anyway) an actual exhaust driven turbo is a much more complicated mod than doing something that basically amounts to attaching a blower to ur fan belt.again thats just my opinion but with the budget i have i would say its smartest silveradoHO 06-03-2006, 10:50 AM STS Turbo makes a bolt on kit for these trucks. Cost is about the same as a supercharger. jethro_3 06-04-2006, 02:24 PM The STS can be installed in 8 hours by the average person. Blowers and superchargers are parasitic:nono: where a turbo is wasted energy making energy:licka: . Call the guys at STS. Call Allen Nelson, he is STS's prefered tuner. Do your homework, you won't installing the turbo!:evillol: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
