Possible vinyl problem?

Ok, I got this off a site and was wondering about the validity of it...

Talking about the tires... "They have a greasy feel, so I'd take special care to protect your rims from possible catastrophic interaction with the vinyl over time."

Um, I've never had this problem, so I was wondering has anyony had a problem with their tires and the rims?

Tyres molded from vinyl, which is based around a PVC, can react with styrene. It has been known for the vinyl tyres to start to melt the styrene wheels on some car kits. However this is not at all common and, if it does occur, it takes a long time, such as over 20 years!

Usually a good coat of paint will provide a protective layer between the tire and the plastic.
