It wouldnt be such a bad idea to take care of some f that rust while you are gutting the car. Would hate to see you have a great shot to do something about it only to need to do it again later whe you end up with a problem. Those exhaust pipes look like dead ass along with most of the undercarage.

Classicrocjunkie
05-29-2006, 11:36 PM
The exhaust i'm not worried about i've got a new one sitting at the shop all fabbed up...Just waiting on a little more cash to pay for materials because i want to go dual mufflers and the ones i had originall i didn't like, and the under carrage is getting coated this summer with some rust inhibator from a local shop. Or if the quote comes back too high, i will just hit everything up with some black rocker pannel spray to stop rust at the shop on the lift.. ha ha.. i love have a shop and great friends.

Well the fenders are basically both on, i have to unfortunatly have to take both of them back off again and drill some new holes in the fenders since they were meant for 95-99 style and its all fukkkked up. Also being its fiberglass underneath, the fitment is pretty damn good i must say, but I still need to do a little tweaking so the 2000+ headlight brackets fit better since something isn't sitting right and causing the headlights to get all discombobulated.... lol.. I will be continueing tomorrow afternoon again.

Do you have to do all that modding for every 95-99 cavy that does the 00+ headlight/typeJ conversion? Also, what are your plans with the color difference between the white/black(cf)? Leaving the car half/half? Painting the rest black, or other color? Painting the cf fenders? But aside from that, it looks like it's coming along well man, glad to see it's working out for ya.

PsychoJJ
05-30-2006, 11:27 PM
Yeah cody, methinks you may need to get a cf trunk or something to give an even contrast to all that cf in the front. With all the cf in the front at first glance to normal people its just going to look like you have been doing way too much junkyarding and not enough painting.

Also to the above.....I really hate it when people paint cf. Carbon fiber IS a color in my opinion. If someone plans on painting cf they might as well have just saved some money and went with some craptacular fg.

Yes everyone who does the headlight conversion has to cut their stock fender brackets in order to have the 2000+ one clear properly. I tried using a hack saw, but i ended up saying fuck it and went out and bought a black and decker rotary tool... life is soo much easier with proper tools. ;) AS far as leaving the carbon fiber the way it is, i have decided i am going to have to do some painting over them because i don't like it, my car is waaay to light. So i am going to do a 2-tone design a portion of the car is going to be black and the other still artic white. I am just too unsure right now. I am going to finish up the install, and take some really high res pics and see what the photo shop people can come up with design wise.

Classicrocjunkie
05-30-2006, 11:40 PM
durr... not totally paiting over them. Which ever portion of the car i decide to turn black the part where it extends into the Cf will show the CF there.. and white will be below that.

Here is an idea of sorts. If not a cf trunk and you want to go with a paint break up idea. Why not ask around and see about going off the cf lines running toward the back of the car in not so much a flame job but like a cracking break up that goes back maybe a tad into the front doors.

It will give it an effect that due to speed the cf is being pulled off the car and underneith is white.

Yeah, its a little out there but the mental picture looked really kick ass to me.

I just have to finish securing the front bumper, put all the fender well liners back in, attach the mesh to the front bumper since the car won't see paint till next spring ( no i don't plan on driving the car either its going to stay garaged but i have like 4-5 planned trips with it and thats all) then put the steelies back on and roll the car out into the driveway and start working on the side skirts and then the rear bumper. So i've still got alot left to do.... and the next 2 days are completely off from work... woo hoo!!

So your saying having the type-J kit and importfighter side skirts is a crime?.. lol

So far.. I will be the only 3rd-4th guy on JBO to rock this routine with a sedan, let alone starting from a base 99 car. So this is nothing really new or unique, however I have more carbon fiber than any of those guys so thats my seperating factor and the 2-tone paint job that will be done. The type-J kit is unfortunatly very very common. Just not on sedans... I will also be keeping my tail lights and i am thinking about actually going back to the stock red ones. Then the few guys who have this done are in like kentucky, michigan, and one other place. No one in NY... i've only seen coupes with the type J

OK.... Back to square one with the lights. Spent the past 4 hours fucking around with all my wire connections just to find out the fucking fuse was blown. But i also did another mod during the process.. no more DRL's... I was diggin deep into JBO history using the SEARCH function and oh boy does it ever pay off for me. This is actually required when doing the conversion without the complications of using wire relays. So they say, i haven't started the car back up yet to just prove the theory correct or false. But as of right now both headlights are functional right now.

Classicrocjunkie
06-02-2006, 04:30 PM
I may do the rear doors shaved, but the fronts will remain. I have to stop working on my car for a while now, while removing my rear bumper today there are plastic mounting brackets that attatch to the bumper and car, the screws were rusted in place and i couldn't get them to budge, so i tried drilling them out, the drill bit snapped in half and the drill slipped and the remaning part in the drill went right into my palm, barely missed a vein i think, but now my thumb feels weird. So i have like 85 days till my dealine i have to make so i am taking a break from this right now....

Yep with the 2000+ headlight conversion you can slap any front bumper designed for 2000-2002. You can even do a 2003-05 if ya wanted aswell. Its only a matter of swapping fenders, hoods and lights. If you even wanted to be more creative, you can turn your car into a Cavfire.

Hmmm, maybe in the future i'll consider the conversion. After doing it, how difficult would you say it was overall crj?

The hardest part was doing all the reasearch to get everything straight before i went cutting wires and splicing. The actual doing the work prolly took me like 15-20 min to cut, splice, solder and black tape everything back up. It had all been done many times in the past, but some people on JBO are real assholes and they are either not sure and didn't remember. But lucky for you guys, I did all the searching for you and i have diagrams out the wazoo to help anyone along if you want to do it. I thought i had all of it down pat, but the whole DRL threw me a curve ball. Puting the body kit on is harder than doing the headlight conversion i think..

I have a couple different idea's I am going to try. The rear is just such a pain in the fucking ass you have no idea. There are stupid plastic brackets you have to get to align up, but try reaching into the trunk and under a body kit... you have to have some serious long arms. I can just barely do it. Its just alot of fucking around and its really annoying trying to do it on ones own.

This is just an idea, i did it when i repaired a vacuum... haha nothing to do with a car, but plastic is plastic (sort of) anyway, i would cut a small line out of that bump with an x-acto saw, then use a soldering iron to melt it back together then sand it down and i guess repeat as needed. Eventually i think it would go down.

This is kinda a two man job but it can work with one with some creative thinking.

If you can use the stock rear crush foam heat up the bumper via a heat gun or use the ghetto approach of a hair dryer. While one guy is maintaining heat on the bumper to keep it pliable run a layer of a two stage gel epoxy fiber glass to the top of the crush guard. Once that is done put the crush guard to the bumper and make sure to keep it down in all sections untill it drys fully. That 2 stage gel FG stuff works better then any other kind of adhesiv I have ever delt with.

If you cant work with the crush guard try and fab up something to sit bellow the top bumper line to ahear to the epoxy and to keep the bumper straight. It works like a charm.

dude with the money you payed your gonna put up with that bumber? i would be pissed...id break it into little pieces and mail it back to them with a nice note. i know you didnt buy some piece of shit cheap ass kit so y did it come to you like that?
also if you want some cheap rubber for your rims y dont you go to one of those used tire places and get some used rubber....they cant sell you anything less then 70% tread and its a freakin steal...like 50-75 a tire

errr... i missed this. I will be damned to put nothing less than the best for my new wheels, after spending $800 on the wheels alone, I'm not going to cheap out now, if it takes me longer to get the car on the road then so be it. I just have to have shoes by july 29th.. otherwise i am screwed cause thats the day of the show i am going to attend. My minimal UTQG rating has to be 400 and temp rating of AA... Tires in that range start at $150/tire. I learned that with my old Kuhmo 712's... They out right sucked ass...

its not big deal man, for stock tires yea go for it. I have 4 different kinds on my steelies so i can pass inspection and for when i go get alignments and winter storage. Just when you pay alot of money for wheels and attend shows, judges take notes of these minor things.

Ha Ha... god no. I went pricing tires tonight.. and holy sticker shock batman. I was trying to find a shop around here tonight that would have something in stock and i could get my warrenty through them and all that good stuff... I couldn't find anything deacent for the specs i wanted for under $200 a tire. So it looks like Tirerack will be getting another order from me and i will just have to have one of these places mount them for me. $110 bucks to mount which blows ass... but oh well...

Well today after fixing my rear bumper and thinking about what i need next, i decided to sell my RKSport Dual magnaflow fart cannon exhaust to a local buddy for 10 bucks cheaper than I paid... :(, but anyways i am sick of rocking the ricer burner fart cannon i have on the car now. At the RDfabs shop i have my Pacesetter Armor coated header, Magnaflow 2.5" high-flo cat, 2.5" stainless steel primary tubing all the way back to the axle, then its Y-'d into 2" tubing where i was going to run the fart cannons, but now instead i just ordered 2 of these guys...

http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/mpe-14832_w.jpg[/IMG]

Oval street series Magnaflow mufflers 2.25" inlet and 4" outlet in a polished mirror finish.... oh boy. This exhaust setup is just about 100 bucks shy of $1,000 right now.. owwy.

Glad to see you got that rear bumper prob fixed. I was thinking last night that it was something missing causing the bumper to flex inwards, causing the "bubble" and a fix would be to put something between the metal-bumper and the kit-bumper. But you already figured it out...

Wow! It's looking as sweet as one of those wallet leaching redheads mentioned earlier. Bet you can't wait to ride her again. You lucky bastard, still living at home, dumping cash into your ride and calling fuck buddies (married=EXTREME ENVY!) I'm happy for you, I'd keep it that way!

Ok i held off on showin pics and progress for a little while since previously i put a drill bit through my palm while trying to install my rear bumper .... but here is a little teaser.

http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/1889/dscf06282ap.jpg

Doing all this work myself finally paid its self off... I didn't mess up my trunk while installing the Prostock wing i snagged off 1HotZ ( Mark A.) yesterday. I didn't have a stock spoiler and there was no diagram to go against. I blue painters taped the whole damn trunk lid where needed, drew a pencil line where it was to sit... and measured i don't know how many times.. Guess the old saying, Measure twice and cut once is more than true and i only have the 7 holes in the lid :).. but anyways.... Fixed the wavey bumper, and went back to stock tail lights which was for the best..

Thats all you get for an update, take care now, bye bye, then....

p.s. Next update will be pics from the Syracuse Sport Compact and Truck blast.. Rims mounted, everything put together and the whole exhaust on... hopefully.

ok so i dont check this post every time...i wait till it gets a few good pics on it...so lets start...

1st, i am a huge fan of those toyota cavalier tails....those are gonna look badass...
2nd, i cant stand that wing...its driving me crazy...lol i cant put my finger on it but somethings weird lookin about it...:screwy:
3rd, the exhaust is gonna sound awesome, and how you had the exhaust just put there for pics is probably because the muffler u have on their is in the way...but i hope the exhaust is going out further than that. not comming out the back more, going wider out.
4th, i defintally vote for the stock taillights with tint because i like it...and you have to do it...cuz....i said so...........so there
yea
5th, i dont see side skirts? any reason or did i miss them in another part of this thread (im guessin u stoped puttin on ur bodykit cuz of the drill bit through hand accident?) but i could b wrong

Lastly, i must say i was skeptical (or however u spell it) about the rims but i like them...nuff said

Classicrocjunkie
06-18-2006, 01:30 AM
Here is a run down of what needs left to be accomplished...

Install both side skirts..
Register and inspect the car..
Get wheel alignment since everything was torn apart..
Install exhaust, yes my stock muffler was in the way and they will sit out wider..they are just resting on the boxes in those pics.....
and finally get some rubber to the rims. There is a new tire out through goodyear that i am able to get a killer deal one within the next month only..

Yes i know how I am going to paint the car now..

I won't be able to have it painted till next year. So i may change my mind between now and then. Once i accomplish the above list, i have to work on paying the car off. Come january i am loosing my job due to me going away to college instead of going to the community college i have been at for the past 2 years and i still owe around 2K on the car... Basically what i have spent in mods on this thing, is required to paint the damn car give or take a little bit. However its going to be 2-tone.

No, they are an off brand made by goodyear. Let me try to explain it.. Baiscally like umm.. Michelin owns BFgoodrich, uniroyal, etc... Goodyear owns Dunlop, kelly, etc..These are called Kelly Fierce HP and are maybe like 3-5 mos out on the market.

http://www.kellytires.com/kellytires/graphics/Tires/full/fierce_hp.jpg

They have 2 other styles, Charger HPT, Fierce UHP.

No its not all painted yet... I have just asked people over on JBO to play with some paint schemes... and i like how the color on the bumpers are. Its like the pearl white you see on the cadalliac escalades and high end cars... I then browsed cardomain and found a car with the same pose as mine... sorta.. and chopped the wheels onto my car. I couldn't exactly get the rear one to line up.

I think its going to look effin sick..
