My buddy just bought an 05 WRX Limited (Silver, Moonroof, Seatwarmers..)Very nice, he got it for 17,000 with 13k miles. Anyways, we take it out and i try it out kick the rev limiter and then we decide to race. So we hit the long stretch out by were I used to live and hit a red light first thing! We take off and hit about 85 before we shut it down, by the time i shifted outta second I had a car on him and by the time I was getting mid-way through third I was about two, two & half cars. He was hitting about 7,000 on his shifts, and i was about 6,800. I was like dude you could've gone to 74-7,500, but all and all it was a good race. I noticed the 2.0L have massive turbo lag to like 3,500/4,000.

why the hell was he shifting at 7000rpm on a stock wrx - tell him to shift at 6000rpm? and turbo lag is only untill ~3300rpm when it fully spools

the amount of torque u have, he can never catch up unless he upgrades.
easiest way, cobb stage 2 with 93 octane.
he should be about a car infront of u.
i hear that the 06 tr are pushing 200 whp.. 05 are only pushing 170whp.

I told him to go with cobb, because he doesn't want to go crazy. But by the time he does that I will have full turbo back exhaust with up-pipe and ecuteck running 16psi.

Nice runs. I dunno that much about the newer WRX's. I didn't know they were dynoing more then the 05's.

+1

The higher he shifts above 6K, the slower he will be. Boost drops by quite a lot between 6-7K with the TD04 turbo.

And yeah the 2.5L 06s are not slow at all. Whereas a good driver can be hitting 14.1s in a stock pre-06 WRX, a very avg driver can do that in the 06s. Just a lot more torques and for a longer time!!! I want! lol

And Maxxus, how's the lag on the 06? I wouldn't have thought it would be THAT much better.

Maybe its just the power difference, but by 3k that sucker really starts to pull.
