Hi,
I have a 1997 Sierra and my brake lights aren't working. The hazzard lights and turn signals work, but no brake lights. Anyone have a electrical schematic for my year or know where I can get one. Any suggestions/advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Glen

I may be incorrect but the fuse for the parking lights control this. Check to see if it is blown.

Mr. Smith, thanks for the reply. The parking lights (and hazard lights) are working fine, but the brake lights (including the 3rd brake light) are still not coming on. The fuses look good, but I'm not to sure about the brake relay. I have no idea, anyone......

Thanks,
Glen

get a test light & check the brake light switch above the pedal and make sure it has power in and out

i just repaired my bosses brake light problem on his wifes '96 tahoe. you have two fuses. #1 and # 18 fuse. but instead of me double checking the fuses like I should have done, I took the brake light switch out and took the cover off to check the contacts in it. the one for the brake lights was a bit corroded and arced up. I just took a nail file and cleaned the contacts to like new condition. I also cleaned the others up while I was in there and then put it back to gether. I plugged it back in an still had no lights. come to find out also that #18 fuse was blown too. once the fuse was replaced the lights worked so I reinstalled the switch back in and all was well again. it should be the orange wire that supplies the power at the switch connector and it connects to the white wire next to it. so double check for power at the orange wire. if you have power, jump the orange wire with the white wire next to it and then you should have brake lights. if not, then I am not sure without a wireing schematic infront of me. you can get that at any parts store or walmart stores. otherwise, best of luck

Your problem is the maxi fuse under the hood. Open the hood and remove the cover to the under hood fuses. The one for the brake lights will be blown. I had the same problem.

Another thought: my mom had the exact same problem with her Astro van and it turned out to be a bad turn signal switch.

I had the same problem with my Sierra but I lucked out and it was just the large fuse under the hood.

Replace the brake light switch above the brake pedal. Easy and cheap
