hello, I was informed by one of our members about your front page posting regarding our forums.

As an adminstrator, and friend of the owner of automobileforum.com, I would like to respond.

This one is a classic, it actually started quite a while ago. We have never mentioned anything about it before thinking of it as simply 'lame,' but now the times have changed.

-What you are actually saying is that you are threatened by our existence, and how much we have grown since we started. Dont worry, we arn't trying to take you over, so you dont have to feel threatened. ;)

Although the site has gone through some changes, it's original version was marvelous - featuring their "Networking Car Enthusiasts Together" slogan, using the AF abbreviation (which they still do),

-Since its original version, it has been sold, and completely changed. the slogan is now "The Internet's Driving Force". The AF abbreviation is used because that is our initials, its not really all that fair to say we cant use our own initials.

and even the creation of their 'company info' page which was of great resemblance to our Corporate Page.

-I was not aware we even had a page like that.

Also at one point, the website had a forum for each manufacturer. (some of them were mispelled and misplaced though) Nah.. we are sure it was all just conincidence, no one would ever do something this horrible.
-Again, that was in the past. for the last 8 - 9 months, we have had a completly different forum then you.

PS: THANX FOR THE ADVERTISING :)

I'm fully backing Millertime who is a Moderator over at automobileforum.com. I joined in March of 2002 and have become a regular at automobileforum. I came from Road & Track forums where I got tired of all the pissing and moaning from people who'd rather flame than talk about cars. We at Automobileforum have no intention of undermining your forum or attempting to steal members. We have a close community and we like it that way, although new members are always welcome. The thing we don't appreciate is the degredation of our forum on your front page. We understand that in the past, automobileforum has somewhat emulated this forum not only in it's slogan but the way the forums were organized and the "AF" acronym. Since December of 2001 automobileforum has changed. The only thing that remains the same is the "AF" acronym. It's easier than saying automobileforum all the time. It's under new ownership and moderation as well. We never claim or have claimed to be better than you here. We are simply another forum who shares the same initials. And while we may not have the knowledge of 35,000 plus members, we do have the community spirit and feel that everyone on automobileforum appreciates. And we do have our specialists over there also who you'd be hard pressed to stump on any questions.

I hope both of our forums can live in peace. And I'm sure we'd all benefit if you just stopped posting false statements about us. We don't do it to you.

Thanks,
CK_S4 :)

threatened? sorry but the tone of the message was purely comedic and quite confident. If you look up just how many active members this forum hosts i think you'll understand it has no reason to feel threatened, and i guaruntee it doesn't. sorry i'm sure you have a nice site, but majority rules. it will be a while if ever before AF(this one) ever feels threatened by a similar website...

Yeah, I'm sure miller was dead serious about that comment.

And that's why I don't think miller meant that literally. If you don't have beef with us or you aren't threatened by us, why do you bash us on your front page? We did nothing to provoke it and we'd appreciate you not judging things without trying them.

you may or may not recognise me by now on automobileforum.com under the same name as here, but i was here first. you guys should not be bothered by the slagging you get. i mean come on, you have an article about yourself on the front page of a site with 35,000 members. i wouldnt have even known of you're existence unless i had seen that article, and im sure its the same for other people.

your right, it was comedic :)

I was just trying to make a joke, and ease the tension. :smoker2:

I appreciate everyone's commentary on this subject, however I am rather frustrated that people still feel the need to continue the conversation. The administration of THIS AF has noted the disdain from the OTHER AF and that is really all that needs to be said.

I chose to leave this thread open since obviously not everyone has had their say yet. Nonetheless, if any more personal tension comes of it, all future discussions will be ended before they begin. Let's all realize that the net is not real and we needn't worry ourselves so much over it.

There's another site?
up until my friend linked me to this thread,I'd never heard of it.

Oh well, each to their own ,I guess:rolleyes:

If you think that your little corner of the web is somehow superior to this little corner of the web, well whoopdeedoo!Life is too short for this kind of bullshit.Nobody asked if they could steal the formula for a good board, but there is plenty of room on the web ,and it appears that the clone lacks any sense of humor about its roots.Still,if you don't like what gets said on this board, you might like to consider not bothering to come here whining. It only makes your community look like a pack of jerks, which I am sure is not the case.

Thanks for the advertising!

For all I know your front page note could be true. But ... the guy who originally started our "AF" (and might have been copying you, who knows) is long gone, and as you can see our format that we had since 12/01 or so is entirely different from yours.

I myself have never heard of this "AF" until today, I guess it goes both ways :D

Peace :ylsuper

See, we aren't trying to start trouble at all. We aren't even spamming per se. We're not asking you to come over here at all. You can if you want to, it's cool. The more the merrier. But we weren't really heartened by the article about us. It wasn't really an advertisement if you think about it. it was more of a discouragment. "Don't go to AutomobileForum.com, they are a bunch of copy cats." That may not be what you meant, but that's what the reader would take from it. If this sounded harsh, I apologize. That is not what I meant.
Automotive Forums is a very nice site with a big community following, but keep in mind that the people who run that site are proffesionals (correct me if I'm wrong). The people who run Automobile are going into their second year at university, and they haven't the time, or the money to turn this into a big freaking "Top 100" site. We see this AF as more of a hangout for friends and refugees from other forums to come to and have fun. This is what we are. I can't exactly say what you are, because I haven't been there but once, and even then it was a referral from a search engine... But anyway, So what if this site's creator was inspired by your AF. You all should be flattered that people aspire their site to be like yours. Aside from the fact that you have advertising out the wazoo (I have seen ads for your AF on numerous other sites), the size of your member list, and the number of forums you have, We aren't really all that different. AF (Both of them) is a forum site where friends come to hang out and talk about cars and have fun. See, we aren't all that different after all.
Peace out! :smoker:

You are wrong, it is spelled "professionals"....

sorry, couldn't contain myself here... :toothless

Just to let you kids know about being 'threatened'.... if that was the case you would not be featured on the front page :)

After looking at my last post here, i guess i ended on somewhat of a bad note. But basically what i'm trying to say is that we're not trying to lure members from your site but we don't exactly appreciate being made fun of on your title page. We're something different, something that 35k members can't have but 150 good posting members can have, a community of people who know each other quite well. So come and post if you wish, but don't rag on something you haven't even seen.

You guys have 100 times as many members as our AF has. Good for you. I joined both AFs at the same time. I found that Automobileforum.com has more of a community feel than this AF. I find the other AF to be more appealing for that reason. Every once in a while I will stop by here to see what is up, but my loyalties lie at the best (IMO) AF.

Wow,I still remembered my password here.....;)

I'm not sure when I registered here, guess I will see when I post this.
I like this site, but simply am involved in to many forums to become a real regular here too.

Lets not start a flame war about the 2 Af's,I'm sure there is plenty room for both of us.
I think lots of people are visiting both sites, and why not?
After all it's our love for cars whats bounding us!

what's up ya'll?? I'm a member at Automobileforum.com. I'm not here to flame your site, so don't worry.

This site is great, if I hadn't come across MY AF first, I probably would've felt right at home here. This is the first I've found out about this site, and I'm sure I'll be back to visit (not about this). Obviously 35,000 will have more knowledge than 1/10 of that, but that's not entirely the point. we talk about cars there, it's not meant to be the library. you're forgetting, we ARE on the web......anything and everything can be found somewhere out there, just because the knowledge is more concentrated in one place doesn't mean we don't have any access to it. This site seems to be well run and filled by pretty cool people. from what I have seen, I like SaturnTangerine and pennzoil GTR and Igor......they seem pretty mature about this subject and realize that the WHOLE thing isn't a big deal at all. Who cares if ya'll think we're a mini-you......I don't think anyone on either forum gives a shit. the problem I"M having is with little shitheads like Moppie, Taranaki, and ESPECIALLY Bryan8412.....These are the (probably) 14 year old kids that don't know shit....they are just small annoying fucks that nobody pays too much attention to. (we have some just like em) If you could get rid of dumbshits like that, I'd spend more time over here. anyways......I'm hoping this won't go on for much longer. You see, our memebers are reently finding out about this and naturally are a little ticked off. So I'm sure you'll be hearing more from a couple of our people. ** by the way....ya'll have some kickass smilies...seriously.**

I recommend a moderator close this thread, I'm sure your forum is sick of this thread.

I agree with you totally Pete.

If our forum is said to be so similar to yours, there's no reason that some members should flame us.

I joined up here a while ago too.

I prefer Automobileforum.com because it is a community place, while Automotiveforums.com is more of a knowledge library. But hey, I'll use both sites to my full advantage :)

Knowledge library??? Not sayin that I don't venture from OT but the other forums aren't that much diferent!

I guess I should really check into the other AF, but if you check off-topic, where almost everything happens and poeple go, you'll see that AF is far from knowledge! :silly:

The actually car forums though provide usful info at times......
