99 grand am wont startjeff1452 05-26-2006, 09:11 AM I just recently had a problem with my 99 grand am se v6. One morning I went out to the car and it wouldnt start. So I went to get a new battery. I installed it and the car worked just fine. :grinyes: Then I drove around for a while and parked it in mcdonalds. Then it wouldnt start again or get any power on the dash. :banghead: So then I unplugged my battery, and after a couple of seconds plugged it back in. Lights on the dash came on and I started it just fine. What do you all think is the problem, alternator or starter. Northcat 05-26-2006, 01:14 PM sounds more like a lose ground cable to me. If the armature in the starter goes bad it will drain the battery clear dead, and if the starter (selenoid) goes bad the drive gear won't engage in the ring gear and you'll get a whirling sound. Your alternator just charges the battery, so if it were bad the car's lights would dim as you drove it as the battery ran out of juice. I would think worse case scenerio would be a bad ignition...but I highly doubt it. jeff1452 05-27-2006, 11:08 AM Thanx a lot man. When I installed the new battery, I must have moved the ground. It was really loose so I tightened it and havent had a problem since. Thanx again. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
