Aftermarket CD player/glove compartment?Clovdyx 05-24-2006, 04:08 PM Hi, I'm a newbie to the forums...actually, I just joined so i could ask this question.:grinyes: You see, recently, I bought a 1996 Cavalier Coupe. Being 17 and male, the stock deck had to go, so I stripped the aftermarket stereo out of my '88 Beretta (I got the CD player for Christmas). My friend helped me install it into the Beretta, so I felt pretty confident that I'd be able to put it in my Cavalier by myself. I go to the store and pick up a wiring harness and the installation kit the nice book that lists them all says I need and go home to start my new "science project". After a few hours of playing, I get frustrated and come to the conclusions that one, it's not going to fit in the center console, and two, the installation kit doesn't fit my CD player. So I make minor modifications to the installation kit, and it goes in...but it still won't stay put in my console. I'm guessing this is probably because whoever owned the car last, rather than trying to remove the entire dashboard, thought they could get around the problem by simply cracking the console on one side and lifting it up. Now, as stupid as this may have been, I must admit...I used it. I was able to take my stock deck out this way with no problems, and was even able to hook the wiring harness up to the standard one. so yeah, it works. But it still doesn't fit in there, so currently, my CD player is sitting conviently in my cup holders. It stays, it doesn't skip, and it plays just fine. However, it looks incredibly stupid and I don't want to take the risk of anyone stealing it. Because of this, I was wondering if it would be possible to mount the CD player into my glove compartment. I know I'd have to do a bit of cutting and whatnot to get the wires from the console to the glove compartment, but if I was able to cut it, would the harnesses reach and would it be safe? Any help would be super appreciated, and sorry for making this so freaking long. Cavalier2000 05-24-2006, 05:38 PM so you don't have the three screws holding the radio braket? SG007 05-24-2006, 08:03 PM That sucks. Buy a new car. lol Cavalier2000 05-24-2006, 10:08 PM might just need a new dash piece, if you can take a few pics. Could be as easy as going to a junk yard and getting a $20 peice vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
