Sorry for the unrelated grouping of questions, thought it better than making a bunch of posts back to back. :nono: I also apologize for whatever's been asked before, I read through 15 pages before posting hehe.


1) Windows: Driver side front window goes down, but goes up only an inch or so and stops responding. Given enough time, it will go up another inch, and this can be repeated. Sounds like, from my reading here, it's the thermal regulator triggering and disabling the motor. My question is what should I look at replacing? The switch, the motor, the regulator, all of the above?

1b) Potentially related, the passenger side rear window stopped working at all around the same time (within a week). It won't work at all, from the driver switch or the switch on that door itself. No signs of life at all. :banghead: Could it be related if the switch is bad? What else should I check?


2) Seats: Anyone done a swap? My stock seats are starting to feel their age, and are not very comfortable. I was just wondering if anyone has done a GM swap (Corvette or GTO seats maybe?), or just gone aftermarket and ditched the electronics and what's involved in either process.

3) Speakers: Driver side door speaker is toast. I've had a hard time tracking down the part # (the only reference I've found does not distinguish which part #'s are which speakers, and there are 4 similar) and was hoping someone had it handy. I know someone is going to ask if it's the Bose system, and honestly I don't even know how to tell in this car. It has door speakers down low, and tweets on the pillar if that helps. It's the lower (bigger) speaker I need.

4) HUD: My HUD works, sorta. Sometimes it works fine, other times whatever is controlling it's brightness seems posessed. It will dim and brighten randomly and eventually dim so far you can't see it any more. Is there something I can replace to fix that, or drop a resistor or something into a circuit to just make it stay bright all the time? It's the only component that does this, the dash dimmer works fine for the interior lights and other dash displays.

Any input on any of the four subjects much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On the power windows, its a good idea to remove the door panels and do an inspection. The drive motor does have a thermal limiting component which is temperature sensitive. The tracks just may need lube. The motor and regulator is a common problem to include the switches.

On the HUD. You can resolder the photocell sensor. It may have poor or cold solder joints. It requires removing the HUB circuit board.

I'll take the door panel off and see what there is to see. Anything in particular I should look for besides the tracks needing lube?

As for the HUD, is that sensor in the center of the dash, up near the windshield? I noticed there's a panel or something there. Just trying to figure out where to look for the circuit you're speaking of.

I have seen seats for sale on e-bay pretty cheap.

The driver's side switch will affect operation of the passenger side since the 12 volts passes through it so I'd check that out.

If you have the Bose system it will say Bose on the speaker grill and you will have an amp hanging in the trunk. I have a front door speaker if you need one. Only a Bose speaker will work in this application. $50 plus ship.

Then it is not the Bose system. I actually intend to replace all of the speakers at some point, and have my subs and amp installed already, but money has gotten tight and put those plans on hold. I figured in the mean time I could just get another factory speaker.

Nobody has done a seat swap, eh? Anyone willing to hazard a guess how hard it would be to swap in Corvette or GTO seats?
