2" or 3" Body Lift?

I just picked up an 88 s-10 4x4. I want to put on 31's since it needs new front tires anyways. Looking for opinions on how to better select which to go with. What have others done and why? It currently has running boards which I haven't decided if I will keep them or not. Thanks

Jason

I have a 99 s10 Blazer, and I am planning on doing a 2" body lift and 2" suspension lift. I think that the truck looks good with about 4" total of lift - and 31's or 32's. :grinyes:
Of course, that is just my :2cents:

Yeah I plan on doing about a 2" suspension lift later on down the road as well. I'm just trying to determine if 2" is sufficient, or to go with 3". If 2" is plenty, that's what I would prefer.

3" will clear the tires nicely, where you might still have some rubbing with 2"

Either 1 should look good with a 2" suspension lift

A 3" makes some jobs easier like engine swaps. It's easy to reach those top bell housing bolts then.

We'd like to see before and after pic's if possible

U should swap the 2.8 for a 350 and hit my forsale thread up for some of the parts to do it. *cheap plug*

Bigger tires= more power than 2.8 can provide

It's rather scratched up now, but will look just as nice before too long

Hey OBP that whole roll on paint job should work well becuz on Trucks they had this roll on primer that they used and it was a roller brush w primer on it so go for it.

That was my plans.

Oh I forgot, my Blazer wouldn't have any problem turning 31" tires with the 2.8L. It's one of them that left the factory with 4.10 gears.

Although since I just started looking for a Diesel powerplant I might wait until I get 1 and see how much power I have.
5.7L might just work out

Where's your for sale thread? I actually have a 350 that I was thinking of swapping in.

I guess I should also mention that I am only looking for a little extra clearance. I'm not planning on doing a lot of off roading. It's mostly for getting into those remote camping locations/winter. Eventually it will be my DD so I don't want it to have too much body roll etc.

ok hoes' ,I gotta get my pennies in here . I did the 3" body and 2" suspension on my 89 . If you are going to do it , its the same amount of work for both . The only exception is that you may have to tilt the steering column down a little more for the 3" .My 31"x 10.50s rub on the anti sway bar when turning close to lock . But thats all . I got 7"s of lift to the seat with all my changes. Rob

www.4wheelonline.com has 2" body lift kits for the S10 Blazers for about $200 US.
www.Roughcountry.com has the 2" suspension lift for about $575 US, and 2" Body Lifts for about $200 US.
Hope this helps.

I was looking at the rough country suspension lift instructions, It looks kinda tricky with welding and bending the tie-rod. The welding doesn't look to bad, but i wonder how percise u have to make the bend in the tie-rod cuz i was looking do to a 2" body and a 2" suspension to my 97 as well this summer

I thought that Rough Country's 2" suspension lift was a bolt on. I might be wrong though

If you modify the tie rods where I'll be living for summer you'll probably have your ride pulled off the road in an inspection

I have been wrong before u may not have to bend the tie-rods but thats the impression that i got, and it says u have to weld a shock relocation bracket im preety sure

Mine is a fabtech 2" spension kit . The tie rods did not have to be bent on an 89 model . Replacing the upper "A" arm and the torsion bar adjuster is though. Rob

I don't know if Fabtech still makes them for our rigs, I don't see them listed
http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/subpages/fabtech_chevy_4wd.htm
I'd like a choice if I decide to lift the stock front end.

Although if I do that diesel conversion that I have planned I might just beef the differentials and suspension up a little.

OBP , what size deisel are you thinking about changing over to ? Rob

OverBoardProject

Rob,
I'm leaning over towards a Mercerdes conversion
http://4x4labs.com/diesel.html
although it looks like I'll have to wait a little for the Automatic adaptor.

My second choice is just droping in a full sized Chev engine, transmssion, and T-case.

I think that the Isuzu 2.2L that came in some S10's are too weak for what I go through.

My reasons for wanting the Mercedes is because they weigh less than the full sized power plants, plus they have a better track record.
Although I could probably work around the full sized flaws if I knew what they were.

I found a mercedes parts car in Vancouver, that I'll be taking a look at in 2 weeks when I'm passing through.
