HELLO!... wonder if anyone can help or advise or *other*

... This morning, I managed to get to McD's and back, but when I went to drive to work, I realised that I am unable to shift the car into PARK to be able to release the keys.

I'm now stuck with my unlocked car, in neutral with the emergency brake on and the keys in the ignition.:banghead:

As it could change gear to get me here OK - I'm assuming the transmission is fine.
Is this something that I can potentially resolve myself with brute force and ignorance - or is this a "let's get ripped off by a garage" job?

Thanks!!!

W.

If the car has a Floor shifter, there may be a recall on it. You didn't state what year Intrepid you have so it is uncertain if yours is included in the recall, but I know certain years do have that recall on the Shifter interlock mechanism. Call the local Dodge Dealer and describe your problem and inquire about that recall, it is entirely possible it can be repaired for no charge.

It's a 1996 - and a console shift.
Found the problem last night by taking the console cover off. The top connector that holds the spring had come off and was jammed under the lever shift mechanism. By holding the spring up I can release the key - but because the part is lodged under the mechanism, I still can't get it into park - but Neutral and Emergency Brake does the trick for now.

Cheers! W.
