front strut noise

had a thud and dealer suggested replacing front struts....his price was ridiculous so I went to a passive strut from Florida.

Noise has diminished but still getting a hard metalic clunk.

Anyone had a problem with engine mounts that might be the culprit.

Are you sure it is coming from the strut area, how did the strut mounts look when the struts were replaced, they can have the symptoms you describe.

The sway bar end links also are known to be a cause of noise.

in reply: I didn't see the mounts when they were replaced but will have a mechanic check tomorrow.

Are the mounts you refer to located at the top or bottom of the strut.

As to the sway bar ends, do you mean the bushings or something else.

I'm not very knowledgeable about suspension stuff.

Thanks for your input.

Sound to me like the dealer took you for a ride. The electronic shocks are like any other shock . If they are not leaking or still rebound properly they did not need to be replaced. I would bet that the mounts were bad and not replaced.
when the shocks were installed. Now you will pay twice

Can you describe the mounts. Top and bottom or what.

Seems to me it's possible that having replaced the mounts in the first place may have solved the problem without buying new struts......Eh

They are in the strut tower top mounted - you can view what they look like , by going to any parts site, Auto Zone, Advance Auto etc. type in the year , mfg, model and key word -- strunt mounts.Unfortunatly for you , you will pay for the struts to be removed and replaced a second time along with a wheel alignment.
Let me know how you make out. Good luck. Rich

I have had struts make a noise. Their was piston slop and if you pushed on the strut sideways they clanked.
