99 duratec long crank when coldMac2002 05-16-2006, 10:49 PM 1999 Duratec, 109,000 miles. Used to start immediately when the key was turned. Suddenly, one day after using Techroline fuel injection cleaner, it takes about 2 full seconds of cranking when cold (45-60 deg.) to start. Starts immediately when hot. Runs great cold or hot. Has all the power it ever had. The techroline may be a red herring; don't know. Haven't done anything since but change the fuel filter, then only because it was scheduled. The check engine light has never come on. It should jump immediately. You can also try turning the key to the "on" position 2 or 3 times before you crank it over. If it starts easily then, it is indicitave of a weak fuel pump. If it makes no difference, could possibly be coolant temp sensor or other sensors on the engine to control cold start. Without having my hands on the car and scan tool hooked up, it is just a guess.
