Hi there, i'm wondering if anyone can help me out with which water pump bolts go where on a 95 GC 5.2L? ive managed to mix them all up on my first attempt and i think they may be on wrong. i'm losing quite a bit of coolant but when it gets everwhere its hard to tell where its coming from. i may have messed up the gasket but it seems to be too much to be just leaking from there. any help would be great, thanks

The bolt placement don't matter...

There is a couple of things you may have done or not have done.
I would start by getting a new water pump gasket @ $2.50.
remove the pump, clean the mating surface of the pump and the engine block, be sure to remove all of the old gakset material..
Now get some RTV sealant (doesn't really matter which - BLUE, BLACK, CLEAR, RED) I would use the red it the HI-Temp, and put an 1/8" bead around the water pump (besure to get all the way around each bolt hole) then place the gasket on the water pump, make sure the hole are aligned correctly) now place an 1/8" bead of RTV on the engine block, again be sure to get about the bolt holes, now palce the water pump onto the engine block and tighten the bolts to 30 FT-LBS... Now I would replace the By-pass hose while your at it and make sure to replace the generic squeeze clamp with some screw type hose clamps.

NOTE- I found it alot easier to remove the drive-accessopry brack (bracket that hold the Alternator, Idler pulley and A/C Compressor to the engine)....
Also besure to replace the O-Ring on the return tube.

thanks for the help dk, ill do everything you said on my next attempt.

i'm not sure what you mean that the bolts dont matter? They're 2 different sizes and have to go in the correct places, no?

The one i'm most concerned about is the lower left, under the rad hose. I could have sworn i took off a long one there but when i went to put it back on it was very hard to turn but it did go in quite far. it finally stopped and wouldnt go any further with about an inch and a half to go. (water lock maybe?) Then i put a small bolt there and put the long one on the lower right side and they both fit but i have a feeling theyre wrong.

well it's been awhile about 2 years since I have replaced the water pump in my ZJ 5.2L, I could have sworn they were all the same length.

Well I am gonna be doing my water pump 2day and I will let you know which bolt goes where, this afternoon.

OK the bolt pattern goes as followed the top bolt to the left (facing the engine from the front of the jeep) very top bolt (2nd going clockwise: LONG, SHORT, LONG, LONG, SHORT, SHORT, then whatever the laston is I do believe it is a long on, but I cannot remember, what ever the last bolt is would go right above the lower radiator hose.....

awesome, thanks alot man. I figured i had that one under the rad hose wrong. I had thought it was a long one but it wouldnt turn anymore with about an inch and a half to go so i assumed i messed up and put the short one there. must have been fluid in the hole.
