Cannot find what the problems is?bobby11 05-11-2006, 04:25 PM I have 99 Toyota Camry pulling on one side. I took it for alignment and was told that rear two tires have really bad alignment which CANNOT be repaired. The mechanic suspected bad frame. So I took to Dealer's body shop and the mechanic went under the rear end of car and told me that nothing seems to be wrong. Only thing he noticed is car is kind of lower on driver side and he suspect to DIFFERENT shocks in rear which are not matching each other. I thought of taking a chance and went for rotation of tires and walmart mechanic told me that one tire has hardly noticeable extra wear at ONE SPOT only. He told me probably RIM is bad or shocks. I told him that car was having accident before I bought in rear end and probably shocks are different on either side of rear end. Should I go ahead and get those shocks checked? How much they cost to replace? Is it good idea to go with Toyota Dealer or other chain shop like Pepboys? Thanks. AccordCodger 05-11-2006, 06:54 PM Man, you've been give some useless advice. As far as I can tell, you've taken it to 3 places and gotten 3 different answers. 1. 2 different shocks (assuming they are both the RIGHT shocks) won't affect alignment. 2. A minor difference in the REAR is not going to make the car pull to one side (you don't say how bad it is). 3. Extra wear on one spot on a tire means a bulge - bad tire. Still nothing to do with alingment. Don't replace the shocks. Go to a GOOD body shop and have them check the frame alignment. If it's good, (and if they can't do a wheel alignment) take it somewhere that can (and NOT a cowboy operation). If your frame is OK, this is not a big deal, but everyone wants to SELL you something! bobby11 05-11-2006, 07:52 PM Thanks AccordCodger, First of all I took the car to Pepboys. The mechanic told me that alignment on rear wheels is way too out (Left Rear: camber 0.8, should range from -1.5 to 0.1) . (Right Rear: Camber -1.7, should range from -1.5 to 0.1). The mechanic did not charge me anything and informed me that most probably it will be bend frame. My car is having salvage title, so I guess there might be frame problem. Then I took car to Toyota dealer's body shop and the guy checked rear part and told me nothing seems to be wrong. He suggested probably the struts. I again took car to Walmart for rotation and over there, the guy told me same thing, to check the struts. Lastly I took car to Toyota Dealer and after thorough checking they suggest me replacing struts (and of course, some other services too...which I won't do). So now I am confused........:banghead: AccordCodger 05-12-2006, 08:03 PM The struts would have to be (seriously) worn or damaged to cause a bad alignment problem. You're just shopping it around, hoping to get the answer you want. You didn't take my suggestion (which is something you would have to pay for). Go to a GOOD body shop and have them check the frame alignment I can't help you any more, I'm afraid. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
