Hey everyone. It's been awhile since my last post. I wanted to get some perspective from 'the experts' on this forum for the following prices that I was quoted from a metro Atlanta repair shop.

The repair shop is called Five Star Auto Services Inc., located in Duluth. This auto shop has the highest user rating for service on Kudzu.com, a website for service reviews in the Atlanta area. Here is a link (http://www.kudzu.com/merchantReviewsList.do?An=0&sid=569735C2E7EEC5660CE2417F78D930AE&searchVal=five+star&A=743350&searchType=keyword&Au=P_CompanyID&merchantId=743350) to the reviews.

Just FYI & a little background - My 1999 Rodeo is approaching 98k miles. It's a 4cyl with 2wd. I regularly change my oil and filter every 3-5k miles. I also rotate my tires frequently, replaced my o2 sensor 4 years ago and replaced my fuel sending unit & speed sensor 2 years ago. The last time I used Sea Foam was 6 months ago. Currently I drive about 10k miles per year. (Drove almost 20k the last 3 years)

I suspect that my timing belt is due for a change and feel that it is a good time to do some preventative maintenance. Here is a list of things that I have put together and the prices for parts and labor that I was quoted from Five Star:

- Timing belt, belt tensor, "timing components" (forgive my ignorance), and water pump: $750
- Another O2 sensor (Only thing that is currently in need of repair... CEL indicated it was malfunctioning) - $133
- Coolant flush - $65
- Transmission flush - $90
- Complimentary (and ambigous) inspection.

All totaling about $1038. Taxes are not included. Is this a deal? A lot of the reviews on Kudzu.com stated that Five Star gave a fair price.

looks pretty good to me. get the belt changed asap. the 2.2L are known to toss them prior to 60k.

I recently changed timing belt, water pump, tensioner and two pulleys on 99 v6 for $450 including labor. You don't need to flush coolant if water pump is changed. I think their is a recall on v4's timing belt pls check on that too.

You are correct. There was a recall for the timing belt. I looked through some old paperwork from the previous owner and it was serviced on 8/24/01 at 26k. How frequently should I change the belt? 70k?

Update: I posted a repair request on Craigslist and got some interesting replies. One man offered to do all the work for $275 if I purchased the parts (includes a coolant flush with the replaced water pump). I called St. Charles and was given the following prices (with an internet discount included):

197.63 - Water Pump
55.45 - Timing Belt
191 - Tensinoner
97.10 - For 1 o2 sensor (i would need 2 if both are out)
Free Shipping
Parts Total - 638.28
----
Above labor quote & parts - 913.28

Okay, that's a little less than $1038. I need to check up on the credentials of this guy that offered the $275 fix.

i purcased belt & tensioner from st charles about $124 and water pump from rock auto for 60. Mechanic bought two pulleys for 25 a pop. I think you should change the belt since current one has 75K.

I wouldn't trust a shade tree mechanic off of Craigslist. There are a lot of scammers posting on that site. I actually called Five Star last week for an estimate on getting the splines greased. They quoted $137. I called a dealer (Carl Black Isuzu) and they quoted $80. Just my 2 cents.

So who did you end up going with?

I still have not made a decision. My deadline for fixing my car is late June when my emissions test is due.

BTW, my 02 sensor was not faulty. My camshaft position sensor is. My younger brother is going to help me with it.
