Oil spitting out of the exhaust...

I recently purchased a 90TT. 145K miles. I've noticed that my back bumper is always greasy, so I am assuming Ive got oil spitting out the exhaust.
Any ideas on what might be the cause of this? I'm thinking blown turbo/turbos but am hoping thats not the case.
Car does not run hot, no ticking or knocking in the motor. Car seems to boost fine and runs great.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Long time no see.

Anyway, when the motor blew in my 95, the ass got covered in oil. However, the ass on my 240 is pretty dirty too and thats just the low compression and blow by.

Sounds like it may be a oil seal in the turbo/turbos. If you can jack the car up and look for leaks or crud on the outside of the turbo housings that may help.

If it is the turbos going, given the 145k miles it could very well be, then I would probably just suggest running them until they totally crap out on you. Then depending on what you want to do with the car, upgrade or get a cheap set of stock replacements. It will require a motor pull to replace the turbos (in theory and according to the factory manual you can do it in car but it's hard enough to get to all the bolts holding the turbo to the manifold when the engine is on a stand, much less still in the car) so be sure to keep that in mind.

Hi Broke!

I took it to Nissan yesterday and they also seem to think it is a blown turbo seal. So...I guess I'm gonna drive her for a while to save up a couple grand to get new upgraded turbos and the labor for replacement.
Everyone is telling me the car will run fine, but I've been driving so carefully cause I'm afraid something else will break due to this. Am I being paranoid?

Nah... just drive her gentle for as long as she'll let you.

Once you can afford to do the turbo upgrade and labor... she'll be a awesome car.

So awesome... you'll... you'll... you'll drive it alot and hate your credit card bill with all the gas charges. :p

do not drive it hard...it will do nothing but cause your turbo to seize up faster than it already is going to. save up as much money as you can as soon as you can. i would not recommend replacing with stock turbos because sport 500's are about equal price and add to the value of the car and if heavy modification ever becomes an option, you or the person you sell it too will be one step ahead.

good luck, hope those turbos hold out for ya.

another premium choice turbo that is very affordable that is an even better bang for the buck is utilizing GT28R's. Z1motorsports also uses these turbos in their 600R kit. they sell the full bolt-on turbo kit minus downpipes for only $2200 but they are capable of producing close to 600rwhp on race fuel. pick your poison.

^I agree with you that they do "add" to the value of the car, but technically they don't, becuase mods are not insurable

well, I took the car back to Nissan cause I tried to check the oil....but the dipstick was broken off in there.
We put the car up on the lifts and found out that whoever replaced the oil pan trapped the end of the dipstick between the block and the pan. Soooo, until I save up some money to get the oil pan replaced and get that shit taken care of shes gonna be parked. Also found out that I have a broken motor mount and broken transmission mount. The left turbo is the one leaking. But I'm happy to know what is wrong with the car and it gives me some idea of what I need to save up for. :)

Needless to say, I'm gonna try and work some extra hours ;) I'll keep you all updated on her progress :)

Well that sucks, but at least you know what's going on. Hopefully it will all work out. Good luck.

the lady I bought it from purchased the car 6 months ago from the origional owner. It was the origional owner who made the dipstick mistake.
But, I'm not overly concerned about the car's problems, after all, the car is 17 years old  I knew it would have problems. I have others to drive while I'm putting together the money to fix it.

Oh yea, and I'm gonna update my list of cars now :grinyes:

do a search for "Work" wheels..i am pretty sure that those are what are on that Z.

few things that i dont like about that red Z32 with all the work done to it...

1. the wide body in the rear doesnt go down into the sideskirts, so you can see like all of the rear tire in that area and it looks very funny.
2. the mirrors are just not my style
3. i like the width of the wheels but the design themselves do not look good on the Z.
4. SMICs are always better for performane but i do understand the people who get the FMIC. but one thing i really like is the placement of the liscence plate that the FMIC allows you to have. :D

otherwise the car is very very NICE. i love the JDM headlights...

Ro_ja R2-5 is a very similar wheel. It's just black.
