Upper or lower ball joint? escohh 04-29-2006, 06:26 AM -Rick crazylost 04-30-2006, 12:14 AM check ball joints FIRST by jacking up the suspension LOADED. that is, jack up each side of the vehicle by the lower control arm as close to the lower ball joint as possible..... then FIRST, push in on the TOP of the tire....if you feel movement or a "clunk" then you probably need upper ball joints.....THEN, stick a prybar between the lower control arm surface and the edge of the steering knuckle just inboard of the lower ball joint stud and lightly pry upwards....if the movement is more than about a 1/16 inch or so then you probably need lowers also.......if your pathfinder is an R50 model, eliminate the step referring to the upper ball joint Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com!
