As the title says im looking at the two tommorow. I really want a Z and i was thinking about a skyline motor? If the motors are decent Id like to definantly do turbos...So if you guys and gals can give me some pointers upgrades stuff like that?

You'll need to have custom motor and transmission mounts fabricated for a RB motor to fit.

Then you have to wire it in... it's not exactly a cut and paste operation.

Good luck with the search.

So you want one with a Skyline engine in it already or you want to put one in a ZX? Although I am new to the Z world I can tell you this much RB motors are supposed to be very stout little units but for the price tag I would propose a V8 conversion similar to what I am in the planning stages for. V8's are cheap and make more HP and torque than you'll know what to do with. But if you insist on a Skyline conversion I would go right for the throat and buy a whole GTR front clip from Japan to avoid the BS of scrounging and mismatching components like transmissions and ECUs. Just my two cents though good luck with your Z hunting I know how frustrating it can be.

if you find one get the 280z instead of zx since the zx's just a little heavier........i think an rb can fit in a 280z's engine bay, which skyline motor do you want? and do you want upgrade ideas on the l28 or on the engine inside after the swap?

Well the first car im looking at has been sitting for a couple years so im a bit worried about the motor. The second one my mom found in a grove so i have no clue about it.

The GTR clip i found it a couple grand not so bad or anything. If I cant find or afford it in the next few months i got my dads 440 magnum motor that i could maybe put in there its got trans and everything ready so i just need the clips and wiring.

If the motor in either is decent i will rebuild it so id prolly start with the stock motor before i go nuts with anything like the magnum or the skyline.

So yeah some info on the stock motor is good...

Well I was talking about an SBC but if you can fit a 440 under the hood do it!

we have a 440 and matching trans from our charger laying our garage, and that fucker is huge... that's the biggest of the chrysler big block engines, so I doubt that it'll fit under the hood... now maybe a 383 might be a more plausible idea, but not a 440

If I remember correctly a 318 is still alot larger than an SBC so I don't know if it will fit but a little recon may be in order to determine if it is possible or not. Take a few measruements and see if the egine will fit also think about the oil pan and other extremities on the motor when taking your measurements

just about any small block will fit into the S30 Chassis... S130 chassis as well.

Big blocks, they're a bit wide... might have fitment issues between the narrow shock towers. Plus Big Blocks are about 800lbs... it'll handle like a pig, good for only one thing, drag racing.

Bleh.

Go to http://www.thezstore.com/ and check up on parts for your particular year. They make go fast parts for the stock motors, you can make them run damn healthy. Trust me. Don't need a swap to go fast... the L series can make the power.
