converting DRL to operate aftermarket fogsrandytrish 04-25-2006, 09:21 AM Hello All, I have a '99 Tahoe and would like to switch my DRL from my headlights to a set of aftermarket driving/fog lamps. Wondering if anyone has done a simular change. Thanks in advance, Randy MT-2500 04-25-2006, 12:12 PM Welcome to your first post. First thing first. A lot of places it is illegal to disconnect or tamper with DRL lights. If you want fog lights just add them and leave the DRL alone. MT randytrish 04-25-2006, 01:06 PM I am aware of my local laws governing tampering with DRL. There are none. I wanted to have the driving/fog lights as my DRL and use my headlights as needed. I posted on this board for straight forward answers or direction, not smart a** remarks. Looks like I went to the wrong place. And Dude drop the attitude. And have a little respect for your elders. DRL lights are a saftey device that is covered under national and federal and state laws. Any time you operate your car on a federal highway it is covered by federal laws. Also depending on what country you are in there is other laws on them. Also you need to check with your insurance co before you fool with them to. So put that in your pipe and smoke it. :grinyes: MT 777stickman 04-25-2006, 07:45 PM Hi Randy and welcome to the forum. 1st off please don't put the hammer on MT. The guy has more experience and knowlege than most of us put together. So with that said I'm going to make an assumption from your 1st post. '99 was a "cusp" year between "old" and "new" body styles. From your post I'm going to assume you have a '99 "old" body with quad headlights and the DRL's are powering the low beams. If that's true and you want to wire the fog's into the DRL's then you need to know that the fog's will turn off when you turn the lamp switch to the "headlamp" position and you will have no controll over them. If that's what you want post back and I'll try to help you get it done.......Steve randytrish 04-26-2006, 09:10 AM Thanks Steve, Didn't mean to get off to a bad start, I would like tech help and not a debate on the use of DRLs. Yes I have the old style lights. I would like to add a set of driving lights for the primary use of DRL. One reason being I use silverstar bulbs and at $30 or more a set I would like for them to last as long as possible. I also want to add the driving lights for looks. What you mentioned above sounds good to me. DRL function operating aftermarket driving lights and when the headlight switch is turned on the driving lights will cut off. What happens to the DRL in the parking light position? Steve, Thanks again for your reply. Randy 777stickman 04-26-2006, 11:22 AM Randy: The DRL function is still active in the parking lights position. You can tell by the blue indicator light in the dash. I've been looking over the wiring diagrams trying to figure out how to do this without loosing the regular low beams in the headlight position. I think it can be done but it could get a bit involved. If you have a fax number send me a private message and I'll fax the diagrams to you and you can look them over also.......Steve vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
