We are trying to replace the wheel bearings on the rear of my 99 mustang.
My "mustang" back yard mechanic cant get the old ones off. They are located in the rear axel and he cant get the old ones out. They arent located on the wheel with an inner and outer like most.
Any one done these types? Does it take a special tool

Well, yes and no. You need a slide hammer with a bearing removal attachment. It goes inside the bearing, hooks and then you use the slide hammer to pull it off. That said, you can rig up something, too. I'm trying to remember how I did it but I think I did use an old slide hammer I rigged up. Kind of a pain.

Just rent one from your local auto parts store. Its pretty much free. You pay a deposit, and if you bring it back (all in one peice) within 24hrs, you get all of your money back. :)
