I bought a 96 Chrysler LHS that needed front body work, the 3.5 motor was replaced with a 3.5 motor from a 94 Newyorker. It shifted fine when I got it home, but now it keeps falling out of overdrive and then wont shift into gear from park. While it is acting this way it whines really loud., It doesn't always do this. Is it a computer malfunction due to different year motors?

Usually a loud whining is caused by a damaged front pump.
If the input shaft was "jammed" during the motor replacement, it can damage the pump. The pump will whine and the fluid pressure may be low b/c the pump is leaking internally. The pumps are very fragile. I ordered a shift kit for mine and it comes with a ring that screws onto the front of the trans to re-inforce the input shaft area to help prevent damage when you put it back together.

Thanks! I plan on getting a good used tran. and have it put in. The guy that I bought it from did it himself with a buddy and they didn't hook up alot of sensors and vacuum hoses, so it is entirely possible that they ruined the tran. Thanks again!

RE: the 3.8 town and country tran. sorry it took so long. I haven't been on in awhile. If your still wondering, When I was looking for a tranny I was told that only a tran from a 3.3 or 3.5 ,96 or 97 only,

Blacky72, your better off staying with the 3.5 engine, it actually has more power than the 3.8 engine.

The transmission in all LH body cars from 1993 to 2004 (Eagle Vision, Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde, New Yorker, and LHS) are unique to that body style, they are not interchangable with any other transmission from a front wheel drive vehicle. Primarily because of the longitudinal (sp) drivetrain placement instead of the transverse layout, turning the engine/transmission sideways in these vehicles would be a total nightmare electrically, and fabrication wise.
