Neon wasn't replaced...sheetmagnet 04-19-2006, 06:44 AM The Neon wasn't replaced... DCX can say that, but the Caliber is a completely different car. That's like the U.S. Army saying they're replacing the Humvee with a Ford Ranger... don't think so. So, to our friends like Miguel, vote in this poll and show everyone how popular you think your Neon still is, unless you REALLY dig the Caliber... then I suppose we can look back on the percentages and see just EXACTLY where the Caliber stands among Neon owners. das2123 04-19-2006, 09:05 AM 95-99 Sedan only way to go for me! Well the 2nd-gens weren't too bad weight-wise... if you removed the spare tire and hardware, and removed the extra lining from the trunk, under the hood, and floormats, you can get them close to 2500 lbs... it's hard to find a lot of cars today that go under the 3000-lb mark. das2123 04-24-2006, 08:36 AM Well the 2nd-gens weren't too bad weight-wise... if you removed the spare tire and hardware, and removed the extra lining from the trunk, under the hood, and floormats, you can get them close to 2500 lbsI'm not knocking the 2nd gens, I actually like'em, but I just prefer the 1st gen and proabably always will :grinyes: Although with the gas prices, our next car might be a Honda Accord Hybrid  99 Neon R/T 04-24-2006, 07:05 PM I love the Gen 1 Neon.Probably because it is paid off and all I can afford to drive. But the SRT4 neon is just sexy. sheetmagnet 04-25-2006, 05:29 AM I love the Gen 1 Neon.Probably because it is paid off and all I can afford to drive. But the SRT4 neon is just sexy. To tell you the truth I really never liked the Neon. I never liked the "Hi" look it had in the front, like a lady-bug smiling at ya. But when I finally noticed the re-vamped 2nd-gen after 2000, and then especially the front-facia facelift in '03/'04 when they actually put a trim section into the bumper and moved the square parking lights into the headlamps themselves, it looked much more appealing to me... I test drove my '04 and bought it because it was the cheapest new car (except a Kia, hell with that!) that they sold around here, it was a gas miser, and it was a 5-spd (fun to drive) and had better overall performance stats when compared to a Civic or Focus in '04. I have had it for 2 years now... and I don't mind the 4 doors any more, and I have to say it is by far it is better and more fun to drive than any 4-cyl or even 6-cyl car that I have ever owned... just my personal opinion though. das2123 04-25-2006, 08:50 AM But the SRT4 neon is just sexy.I just want the engine, someone else can have that cow's body. sheetmagnet 04-26-2006, 06:07 AM It'd be nice to find one in the junkyard and transplant the 2.4 SRT4 motor into the 1st-gen Neon... and take the bigger 2nd-gen Neon and throw a 6.1L Hemi and drivetrain in it out of a 300C (with heavier modifications, of course)... r.j-lo 04-26-2006, 09:59 PM SRT-4 Neon fo shizzle tothedumpster 04-28-2006, 02:45 AM can't tell ya how many spinners I nailed on the hood of my neon so far! das2123 04-28-2006, 08:41 AM can't tell ya how many spinners I nailed on the hood of my neon so far! What? sheetmagnet 04-29-2006, 05:31 AM can't tell ya how many spinners I nailed on the hood of my neon so far! He he he. As far as I know, a "spinner" is also a name for a really cute and prissy "sl**" that hangs around car guys and the club and hooks up with whoever has the best ride and the best whatever that particular night... just my understanding of the term... I could probably say the same for the hood of my neon lol :grinyes: tothedumpster 04-29-2006, 05:42 AM What? chicks dig my neon man simple car but edgy too flatlander757 04-29-2006, 06:42 AM I'm a linetech for DCX working under a master viper technician... and yes it was replaced with the caliber. It's built on the same platform. That's like saying the Charger and Magnum have nothing in common. Only reason I'm in here is I'm looking for a cheap POS to get me to work and back while I'm saving for something not in the 17s. If you guys have any technical questions go ahead and ask. I'll give it a shot. das2123 04-29-2006, 09:54 AM chicks dig my neon man simple car but edgy tooWhere are the pics? sheetmagnet2 04-30-2006, 11:38 AM I'm a linetech for DCX working under a master viper technician... and yes it was replaced with the caliber. It's built on the same platform. Okay, if there are no significant structural improvements in the Caliber, and it weighs 600 pounds more than the Neon it replaced (much slower 1/4-mile even with the newer engines, and worse MPG in the city), has a 0.10 greater drag coefficient than the Neon (oops there goes the highway mpg too... no more 40 mpg at 80 mph!), does worse in the slalom and braking... then where are the improvements? Don't get me wrong, the extra options like the pop cooler and flip-down tailgaiting things are nice, but they are what they are: OPTIONS. All vehicles start with the same #1 function: driveability. It may be on the same platform, but if the Caliber underperforms in every category, how can DCX really call it a "replacement" if the overall result is a step backwards?:2cents: (sorry for the name-change guys, had probs with the sheetmagnet login) flatlander757 05-01-2006, 08:38 PM Okay, if there are no significant structural improvements in the Caliber, and it weighs 600 pounds more than the Neon it replaced (much slower 1/4-mile even with the newer engines, and worse MPG in the city), has a 0.10 greater drag coefficient than the Neon (oops there goes the highway mpg too... no more 40 mpg at 80 mph!), does worse in the slalom and braking... then where are the improvements? Same thing happened when Ford switched from the Fox body mustang to the SN95 design(93-94 differences). Along with the Ford Escort as it has gotten newer and newer. Today's car buyers look at interior creature-comforts and those options before anything else. The fact is: Calibers sell like hotcakes. That's the #1 concern of the manufacturer. The Neon is possibly one of the worst cars ever made(mainly with the first few years). Those things are very unreliable and are just built poorly. It's about time it is done away with. sheetmagnet2 05-01-2006, 11:18 PM Well I can agree with all of that... the 1st-gen Neons were built poorly. Even the 2nd-gen Neons, had a few quirks. It seems they didn't knock most of the bugs out until '02 or '03. It kinda saddened me that they got rid of the coupe, but I liked the fact that Dodge improved the car overall... and as soon as they did, they gave it the axe. I understand the trend, I just don't agree with it. I am not saying that all sport-compacts should be land-rockets or sports cars straight out of the box, but the Caliber just doesn't seem as "fun" of a car to drive as the Neon is, for many reasons which I already listed. Just my opinion. das2123 05-02-2006, 08:50 AM The Neon is possibly one of the worst cars ever made(mainly with the first few years). Those things are very unreliable and are just built poorly. My 99 hasn't given me any major concerns and is very well built. Biggest problem for me is a dead battery which has nothing to do with the car. I do my preventive maintenance such as plugs, wires, PCV Valve, oil changes and what not. No complaints from me! I won't buy the Caliber, especially since it offers no more room than the "crappy" first gen neon! flatlander757 05-02-2006, 07:47 PM My 99 hasn't given me any major concerns and is very well built. Consider yourself lucky since there are 61 TSBs on the '99 Neon:licka: The Neon probably got a bad rap because there are 231 TSBs on the '95:uhoh: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/flatlander757/Misc/95neontsb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/flatlander757/Misc/99neontsb.jpg That's a lot of technical service bulletins. sheetmagnet2 05-02-2006, 09:11 PM Consider yourself lucky since there are 61 TSBs on the '99 Neon:licka: ... I think owners have alot to do with the quality of a vehicle. I'm not saying they have anything to do with the TSB's, but preventive maintenance goes a long way. flatlander757 05-05-2006, 06:47 PM I know hundreds of others who have had the same experience with me. Yeah I totally agree with you on that. In my experience, people with first gen neons always come in with crap all over all the seats and trash throughout the car, things falling apart, and get this: the brakes always squeel... yet that is NEVER the customer complaint! They wait until the check engine light is on and it dies going down the road to bring it in:rofl: This is less common as you progress to the newer and newer neons, but neon and caravan are always the cars with owners that neglect them. Same with the early "cloud" cars(Breeze, Stratus, Cirrus and Intrepid). connermt 05-17-2006, 01:40 PM I'm a linetech for DCX working under a master viper technician... and yes it was replaced with the caliber. It's built on the same platform. I called a few weeks back to check on any recall -type info for my car (which there was none - WOO HOO). But my cousin in FLorida was told by a Dodge place there there was a TSB on the SRT4 TPS. Does anyone know if this is true? Addittionally, does any one know where I can get a TPS assembly diagram? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
