I have a 1997 P-71 CVPI. I usually get about 19 mpg city and 24 highway. but when i drive city im always partaking in some stoplight racing with these people that think there ricers are the coolest things since zattirans boxed rice meals. Also if ur gonna buy this car ask whoever is sellin it if the torque converter has been replaced. on the 93-97 Vics and Grand Marquis there was a problem with the fins in the torque converters they would bend and when the transmition would shift it would feel like u r going over rumble strips. this vibration will eventualy cause tranny pump dammage and cause the bands to slip.
Just sumptim to think about.

My 97 P71 get anywhere from 15 to 17 mpg in city driving, and from 19 to 24 mpg on the highway,, depending how far I go on the highway,, if I go 100 to 200 miles on the highway, I usually get 19 to 21 mpg,, if I go 300 to 400 miles all on the highway,, I usually get 24 to 25 mpg..:)

2005 with 10.5K mi on it - 17 city 23 interstate cruising 75-80 mph. The 4.6 doesn't get broke in good until around 20K miles, so the mileage will improve with age.
