I am building a 383 Chevy. I have built 355's and this is my first 383. I didnot know much about core shift in blocks and found out the one I have has core shift. I finaly got the rods to clear the block but the cam has only about .006 clearance. I bought an Eagle internaly balanced rotating assy. and the rods are clearanced up to a .600 lift cam. The block has already had the mains checked and corrected I thought. Thats what the guy said when I bought it. I can tell because someone had a hone on the mains, but that doesn't mean it was done right. With .006 clearance I have now, will a small base circle cam solve my problem or is it possible to take the block back in to have the mains realigned ? The year of the block is 1972 and it is an 010 block.

Thanks

Was the block line honed?

.004 is pushing the clearance on a 383. good clearance is between .002 and .003. I say try honing again. good luck:smokin:
