type of gasBroncodriver 04-12-2006, 02:39 AM Hey quick question that i need answered. I have a 89 300z turbo. I keep hearing that i should only run 93 octane because anything else will ruin the turbo. Is this true or can i run 87 octane? Oh and the turbo has a leaky seal so im not getting full boost anyways. How hard is the seal to replace? DeleriousZ 04-12-2006, 02:59 AM oh geez.... yes, you must run a high octane fuel replacing the turbo seal requires rebuilding the turbo most of the time... you're better off paying $$$$$$$$$ for labor, and taking it to a shop and being removed for you then taken to a turbocharger rebuild shop.... Broncodriver 04-12-2006, 03:21 AM what was the "oh geez" about? Im new to the Z scene so be patient, i learn quick. :D As you can tell by my screen name, i dont drive a turbo sports car every day. lol DeleriousZ 04-12-2006, 10:28 AM yeah i spose..... i suggest you do some reading..... lots and lots of reading... howstuffworks.com has some really good stuff for beginners on turbo's Broncodriver 04-12-2006, 11:49 AM I know how turbo works. Its not like i just bought this car, ive had it for 2 yrs now. I just dont understand why you have to have the high dollar high octane gas. But oh well, since you do have to run it then i guess i have no choice. xXxRocker5150 04-12-2006, 07:59 PM you don't have to; They can run on that 87 pisswater gas, but that doesnt burn as efficiently, and isn't as good for your 89T. DeleriousZ 04-12-2006, 08:42 PM search google for 'detonation' as applied to turbocharged engines... that should help you out a bit xXxRocker5150 04-12-2006, 09:56 PM ^who me??? I know all about detonation as the burning temperatures of different octanes and stuff, but somewhere on my 87T it said "use 87 or better octane" and it in fact says it in the user manual as well. DeleriousZ 04-12-2006, 09:59 PM no not you numbnuts, broncodriver ExTrEmEDrIfT 04-13-2006, 12:50 AM yah well ok if you know about detonation and you know about turbos then you should know that you should run a higher octane regardless what the manual says ....i know i read for my '86 300zx turbo it says 89 octane or better xXxRocker5150 04-13-2006, 12:24 PM no not you numbnuts, broncodriver oohh... okay babycakes!!:smooch: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
