clutch 98 runner98runner 04-11-2006, 12:21 AM i just repkaced my clutch did it in only 6 hrs no lift but my problems is the mechanic that helped my didnt grease the throw out bearing:banghead: is it a big deal ? now comes the kicker i have a chatter coming from th tranny sounds like the throw out but it only does it at idle or in gear noyt on the gas but it goes away when u hit the goes or touch the clutch pedal please anybody any advice KimMG 04-11-2006, 05:50 AM If the bearing was supposed to be packed with grease and it wasn't, it will fail. 4Wheel 04-11-2006, 09:01 AM Throw out bearings are sealed for a GOOD reason! If they were open the grease would sling onto the clutch surfaces and and render the disc plates useless. Sould be a sealed configuration thats why I always replace with a new bearing. 98runner 04-11-2006, 06:05 PM thanks i did replace he throw out bearing clutch plate, disc, pilot bearingand had the fly wheel done the only thing the manuals side was to grease the contact points ? but i still dont know where the chatter is coming from 4Wheel 04-11-2006, 11:58 PM There are four parts to be concerned with: Clutch release bearing, sealed. (Permanently lubricated and requires no cleaning or lubrication) Clutch release fork Clutch release fork to bearing retaining clip Clutch release fork pivot point spring clip The bearing needs no additional grease The release fork only needs a light touch of grease at its contact points The chatter can be caused by misalignment of any one of the fork components, fork not on both the bearing flanges, fork to bearing retention spring clip improperly installed, fork pivot point not aligned or pivot point spring not installed properly, fork is binding or sticking. Were the springs of the clutch plate on the side opposite the flywheel? It should have been hard to install the pressure plate if it was backward. 98runner 04-12-2006, 12:25 AM no it only fits one way... well i think ive found the out what it is but not for sure could it possibly be that the throwout bearing is to close to the plate that it just touches and its making it chatter :banghead: if only id had the 1100 bucks to have it installed i what have to deal with it the chatter speeds up in with speed and if you are in 3 gear coasting an push the clutch pedal in about 1/2 inch itll get louder if i adjust the clutch at the pedal will it pull the throw out bearing awway if so any tips on that? 4Wheel 04-12-2006, 12:38 AM You should adjust the pedal to have 5 - 15 mm of free play. Dont stress it! If you can remove and replace the the clutch plate you can diganose this problem. Did you have the springs installed correctly? move the rubber boot away and see what a flashlight will reveal to you. If it is an adjustment it an easy fix! 98runner 04-19-2006, 11:19 PM i adjusted the cluctch and it seems to have gone away but well see what happens vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
