Brush Guard Questions

Hey,
I just bought my first Jeep ('03 Grand Cherokee Limited V8 4x4) a couple weeks ago and I've got a few questions for you guys. The first thing I want to do is but a brush guard on it. What brands or specs should I look for when choosing one and how hard are they to install. I'm not looking for one with lights so that takes out any wiring I would have to do. I'm also going to be getting a K&N airfilter for it. Is the whole K&N intake system worth getting or should I just get the airfilter. I've heard the intake systems don't do much more than the airfilter alone. What are some other cost effective upgrades I could do to the Jeep? I do a lot of driving in the rocky mountains (west of Denver) so the more power, the better. I'll post some pics of it tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
