mazda rx7 almost startsgary h 04-09-2006, 05:43 PM i have a mazda rx7 1988 n/a wont start thers fuel getting to the engine as you can smell it seems like its flooded checked plugs bottom two were dry top two were fouled with fuel am going to change them as tried to turn car over so much ran battery flat also when car almost started smoke came out but only one exhaust would this happen if the car was just firing on say two plugs or could there be a blockage somewhere fb33112arx7 04-09-2006, 08:35 PM Sounds like you need to check your plugs to see that they are firing by removing them and then reattaching the plug wire and grounding the end of the plug on the block or something. Then hook up a timing light to make sure that the leading and trailing plugs are sparking at the right time. If after that you still can't get it to start probably you need to check the vacuum advance systems for both leading and trailing. drftk1d 04-10-2006, 02:08 PM yeah if there is excess oil in the motor, it will smoke a bluish color and uhOP, please use periods or commas or something, your post was hard to read. gary h 04-10-2006, 02:56 PM have tested spark plugs vacuum etc fuel is getting through but just cranks away. sometimes it will give the impression that its going to go then just drops to cranking again, also plugs are fouled with fuel, every time i take them out and dry them off they get covered with fuel again, and theres fuel running out of the plug hole not much just comes out with plug was thinking of having the car towed and trying to jump start it would this burn up excess fuel if it started thanks badassfocus1101 04-11-2006, 09:53 AM sounds to me like your car is flooded, mine did the same for awhile and turns out thats what it was, pop your hood, i cant remember without looking exactly which fuse it is, i would look but my computer is being really homosexual right now so... but its the first one. pull it out, get back in ur car and hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank the engine for 15-30 seconds, put the fuse back in and crank without ANY GAS AT ALL!!! should fire right up....or u could have to repeat this procedure 40 times...lol. thats why i luv the rotary mwolvin 04-11-2006, 01:12 PM have tested spark plugs vacuum etc fuel is getting through but just cranks away. sometimes it will give the impression that its going to go then just drops to cranking again, also plugs are fouled with fuel, every time i take them out and dry them off they get covered with fuel again, and theres fuel running out of the plug hole not much just comes out with plug was thinking of having the car towed and trying to jump start it would this burn up excess fuel if it started thanks When my '86 would flood, I would usually get it to start simply by holding the gas pedal to the floor the entire time I was cranking and crank the engine for 20-30 secs at a time. Occasionally, this wouldn't work, and I'd hook the car up to another one with a tow rope and pull it at low speed. The car would fire after 10-15 feet every time, although, I had to manually maintain 3K rpm's until the engine cleared or else the engine would quit. Crazy? Yes. Stupid? Absolutely. Did it work? Every time. drftk1d 04-11-2006, 02:54 PM ok the gas pedal to the floor thing ONLY works with S5 models (89-91). for the S4's you need to go under the hood and pull the fuse that says "EGI" on it (that cuts power to the fuel injectors) and then crank it like badassfocus said. also checking the pulsation damper on the fuel rail and the injector o-rings is a good idea right now, you just need hand tools to take off the upper intake manifold. push starting the car or using something to spin the flywheel are other options to get the car started. badassfocus1101 04-12-2006, 02:07 AM yup EGI is the fuse i was trying to think of, thanks drftk1d drftk1d 04-12-2006, 09:39 AM just checked under hood of the S4, they have 2 egi fuses, but just pull them both gary h 04-12-2006, 11:11 AM hi managed to get the car started by the towing method all was well till i noticed flames coming from underneath the car then the whole thing went up in flames so its now a dead rx7 and an expensive barbecue thanks for your help mwolvin 04-12-2006, 12:49 PM Sorry to hear about your luck. . . badassfocus1101 04-12-2006, 04:38 PM Dude< That Sucks!!! feedthafire 04-12-2006, 10:56 PM im learning... why would it go in flames what made it do that and would would make that do that? drftk1d 04-13-2006, 01:07 PM its such a wierd occurrance, maybe the pulsation damper was leaking (a know cause of fires on S4's) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
