Troubleshooting front left squeal--not brakes...

Bear with me here...I'm fairly new to DIY repairs. I have a tempermental squeak coming from my front left wheel when I start accelerating from a stop. If I let off the gas it stops, only to resume when I hit the pedal again. I've tried to create it a couple of times accelerating in 4X4 and it never happens but that could just be coincidence. I replaced my ball joints recently, and thought it was being caused by the dirt shield which got damaged in the process rubbing against the rotor. However, I just replaced my front brake pads and made darn sure that the dirt shield was out of the way and the noise is still there. I'm relatively sure my front left bearing is bad because of a dull whomp that comes from there with each turn of the tire, but the frequency of the two noises is different and they don't sound (to me) like they're coming from the same part. And, unfortunately, I can't afford to replace the hub right now to see if that cures it. I suppose I could go into a shop to see if they can pinpoint it for me, but I'd feel bad using them to find the problem and then fixing it myself. Thanks for any suggestions!

When you did your brake work did you lubricate all the moving parts in the caliper?? It could be that it is sticking a little bit, and grabbing when you first take off, then releasing a little late.
I think that is the first thing to check.

First things first.
I would fix the whomp first.
And see if it gets the squeal to:grinyes:

Did you turn the rotors so they are not out of round. Lube the caliper slides with high temp grease. If the pads did not have the stick on metal sound pads on the back you must use spray brake quiet or the permetex little tube stuff on the backs or they will squeal. So a 4wd that means you had to take the hub and CV axle out for ball joints - were they good and the boots not ripped. Put your jack under the lower a-arm to lift and test/rotate the wheel and hub (this way the CV is not binding) and see if it makes any noise. You did tighten that CV nut of course.

I would have to agree with MT.
Faulty parts can make all kinds of different noises. I would fix what I know is bad then keep looking after that.
