MPG on 4.8 Crew CabAdAmN20 04-09-2006, 11:09 AM What kind of gas mileage are yall gettin on an 06 Crew Cab? tykrz 04-09-2006, 12:30 PM 16 mpg city 21 mpg highway ____________________________ 05 Z-71 ext cab 5.3L auto 4.10 gears 17" wheels all stock KahneFan 04-09-2006, 12:33 PM tykrz 04-09-2006, 07:17 PM I think your problem is the 4.8L mated to 3.23 gears. Thats a lot of truck for that small engine to pull around compounded by that high gear ratio. Your engine is probably working double duty moving your truck around and operating well below its efficiency rpm range. I was told when I bought mine by the dealer sales people that I would do best with the 5.3L and 4.10 gears both in power and fuel economy. I'm glad I listened to them. AdAmN20 04-09-2006, 10:54 PM What about if I put 3.73 pos. trac in it ? Would that help much ? KahneFan 04-09-2006, 11:14 PM Would it be cost effective to replace the 3.23 with a 3.73 or 4.10? Keep in mind, every MPG difference for me makes about $270/yr difference. So, if I could get another 2MPG over 4 years, that would be about $2160.00 (ish) AdAmN20 04-09-2006, 11:22 PM How much you reckon it would cost to put the 3.73 in it ? KahneFan 04-09-2006, 11:32 PM That's what I'm not sure of. Maybe I'll call a dealer and see how much it would cost tomorrow. Not only that, but how long do I plan to own this truck... tykrz 04-10-2006, 07:31 AM probably cost 1600 minimum plus labor and thats just for gears, positrac carrier extra Nigel215 04-10-2006, 11:08 AM probably cost 1600 minimum plus labor and thats just for gears, positrac carrier extra seems expensive. u talkin about having a dealership do it? I just got a whole new rear put in, Eaton posi, new gears, everything. only cost $1,200 from a shop. redneck45 04-10-2006, 12:27 PM I get 17.5 highway, '99 4.8, 4x4 EC, 4:10 gears and 285 tires. silverado122775 04-10-2006, 12:51 PM I get about 18.5-19mpg. I have a 5.3 E/C and 3.73 gears. TexasF355F1 04-10-2006, 08:33 PM Don't ask.:grinno: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
