This truck is listed as a 1999 model but has 2000 drivetrain, not sure which to call it. It came in with no dash lights, they did work with the dome light on though.
I replaced the headlight switch and the dash lights worked fine.
A couple of days later they quit again. I was able to get the switch warranteed and once again fixed the problem.

Now a couple of days later they are out again.

Anyone ran into this?

I know the system has daytime running lights, they work fine.

Is there a fuse for this? I don't know, but it's worth a look.

Ok, is there some timer that caused this to happen. I have the same truck, Thursday last week the dash lights didn't work. I still have the PRND area lit as it has its own fuse. I spent just about all day Friday going over the wiring and fuses finding nothing:banghead:. I went to the local GM dealer and got a headlight switch. I noticed that the dinger didn't work if the door was open, ignition off, and headlights. I put the new switch in and everything worked. I was happy:).

Tonight, I get in my truck to go home and guess what NO DASH LIGHTS. :shakehead

I also don't have a dinger when head lights are on and door is opened.

I have also noticed that my remote door locks don't seem to work as well. Changed batteries in the remote. At times it takes a real deliberate holding of the button to lock or unlock the doors.

I hate to take it in to get looked at as I know the mechanics there and they looked at me like I was nuts when I told them all the fuses were good. I even had the service mgr out, he couldn't find anything.

If you have an answer or suggestion, make a couple of guys happy and pass it on.

Have you checked the door switch? I had an old Ford where the dinger stopped dinging with the door open, interior lights acted funny, etc, and it was the switch that tells when the door is closed. Although, if your truck has a 'door ajar' indicator, it would probably be going off while you were driving, because the truck would think you were driving with the door open...

I am wondering if the trouble may be in the daytime running light module.
It looks like the common denominator, just afraid to try it and not fix the problem.
I was hoping this was a common problem or at least someone has run across it before.

I wonder if the dealer mechanics have any kind of flowchart to trace out the problem??

I spent most of the morning at my dealership looking thru the system trying to find where the problem is. I found the schematics and some troubleshooting plans to repair no illumination of instrument cluster and no headlights on chime with door open. Both problems seem to stem from the same item the grey wire that goes to instrument cluster on Circuit 8. I followed those directions had voltage everywhere I should. The other was the drk grn wire from headlight switch to instrument cluster, it checked out ok. I read thru everything I could find and check, with no luck. I was fed up, I decided to have them fix it, I left the truck there, they called me a little bit ago advised me they had found nothing wrong other than the posibility of a faulty new headlight switch and I could pick it up. I guess I will wait and see if it still works next week.:screwy:

I would be interested to see how it works out. Sounds like what I went thru
the second time around. The owner gave up on me and says he can live with
turning on the dome to see the dash, he doesn't drive at night too much.

I really suspect a bad run of switches, I was surprised when they warrantied
it so easy.

Please let me know how yours does.
