Story/History
Hello, this is a great message board some really good info around here. I have somethings to share and a few questions. I just purchsed the best used car in my entire life yesterday, its a 99 1.8L Turbo Black magic mettalic, tan leather, winter package, 6disc changer, triptronic tranny, etc. etc. it is in mint condition with 84,000 on it without a ding or scratch. I will post picks if anyone cares to have a look. The dealer was 200miles away from me and I never seen the car, they said they would pay for my gas if I didnt buy it. So I had to see it. It wasnt advertised yet and I was calling on a Jetta, it was sold. My wife and I did flips the instant we seen it and both of us thought it was a brand new one. We had no idea it had the triptronic tranny, heated seats and a 6disc cd player. I was bummed, no moonroof but the condition and other lil things made up for it.

The small problems/questions

I looked the car over for about 20mins in awe, trying to find things wrong with it. What I found was that the gas lid doesnt latch (no biggie I think I can fix it) The metal clip is still in there. any suggestions? Next is, no remote and the dealer told me today they want $250 for it and make another key etc. (no way)

The test drive

She started right up and purred just like new. ( I think it has had a new motor or a new head job, cause the head looks like new) It ran and drove just as good as it looks. I looked down at the cluster gauge and noticed nothing but the time and miles was working, no rpm, mph, temp notta. Ive got a new cluster on the way. Also the check engine light cam on and the abs goes on and off now and then. They hooked it up to the computer and the guy said the code was a speed sensor or something, so I think its the bad cluster. It shifts real smooth but when your going fast and slow down real quick I notice the rpms bump up a little bit, not sure if thats the best way to describe it. And I may be being a bit picky cause it is minimal and could be the way it is.

My Main Questions

I feel overall it should shift and down shift like butter. I plan on taking it to a tranny shop and have them flush and replace the tranny fluid. I was told from a guy at the dealer it is lifetime fluid. What do you guys think? Should I have it flushed? Has anyone done theres? Also can I run mid grade or rugular gas?

DONT GO TO AN AFTERMARKET TRANS SHOP. Use only vw fluid and i would reccomend a vw dealer to replace it due to the difficulty of the fluid change and fill.
