Does anyone out there know how much hp a stock spoon engine has? Also how much does a whole motor swap package usually go for? (motor, tranny, ecu, axles, all the goodies needed)

Sorry for me being naive, but what is a spoon engine? Is it just a type of engine? What makes it so good/fast? I remember hearing about it in The Fast and The Furious, and in GT3 there's a Spoon S2000. Just wondering, thanks! :)

jcl- It's a very very expensive highly tuned engine made from the manufacture Spoon Sport in Japan . They make really really good aftermarket stuff for your honda or acura . I'll post some specs of the spoon engine if i can find the site . Peace

a spoon engine has 250 to over 300 hp

I'm not sure but I thought spoon blocks were larger? Like a spoon b18C motor is 2.0 L (even though the engine code indicates a 1.8) etc....

man u guys dont know much about cars. a b16a engine comes w/ 190hp.
a b17b comes w/ 200hp. a b18c comes w/ 210hp. the engines cost $4260. of course u can put turbo on a spoon, u can put turbo on anything, just that it might blow out ur engine.

i priced one for my civic, complete deal top of the line 2.0 liter with everything on it and it was $6000 for motor alone. but that was like 4 years ago so its probably changed.

spoons are strickly for racing and you have to rebuild them to change your oil. also they preform best at insanely high rpms.. streetable yes.. costly .. very ...

Spoon Engines cost $3245.92, with $2131.83 in shipping costs. That comes to $5372.22 just for the engine delivered to your door. Contact them directly and you'll get the same price. Here in America, they charge anywhere from 7,000-9,000 for a new engine from them. :smoker2:

Ok guys heres the deal
B-16 = made in the early 80's fairly cheap with bout 180 HP
B-18 = made soonly after the B-16... this is the engine you build up
to form the Spoon engine this one is pretty pricy... 250 HP
spoon = made from the B-18 w/ alteration this bitch is a 300 HP
make sure you have a good chip!!!!
A22H = this is a Prelude engine.... it has about 220 HP and it's pretty
nice... but for a civic... requires some work
Civic Type R - very nice engine.... I give props to this one 190-200 HP
this is all I know.... I hope it helps you guys out

What kind of specs? That's a pretty vague question... and since when did they make separate gsr's for civics only?

Mrock
07-15-2003, 11:54 AM
Yeah, I thought there was a lil' old car called the "Integra" or something that came with the GSR engine ;) ....

Spoon engine's are nice, but it's much more cost effective for me to buy a B18 locally, build it, and turbo. I'd save quite a bit of money on shipping alone!

Aiight u guys this is what i Know about the spoon engines. I know that they can rev all the way up to 12,000 RPM. As some of u guys said it, it is a touring car. I think it produces up to about 250 hp or a lil less. It is a high rev engine that should be only used for track races but since they do sell it (for a very high price) I guess if u want to you can buy one and drive it. The reason why this is a track car is because since it is a high rev engine, there is going to be a lot more heat than a regular H22 or B18 engine. (A lot more) I heard that people who have the spoon engine has a magnet in their oil pan so that if a piece of an component in the engine cracks and breaks that is where it will stay at. If u guys think I'm wrong in anything, give me a shout and we will talk about it. (I love talking about cars) And if anyone of you guys have a 2001 Honda S2000 with a Turbo system in it, plz IM me and tell me where and for how much you got it. Thanks for your time you guys!

Ok... almost everyone in here is stupid as shit :thefinger . You do not have to "pull apart" your spoon to change the oil. WTF are you thinking, if you know anything about engines you would know that almost every engine has a oil drain plug, and a cap on the valve cover to add oil... :loser: :for the price of a spoon, it depends where you buy it. buy it straight from japan, and pay 4,200 for the engine, not including shipping. buy it here, spend up to 6K. And if anyone wants to argue me about this, I will tell you that I spoon engines in all of my hondas, and I have built more spoons than most of you have shit in your life. so if you think your the shit and know everything there is about spoon engines, test me. You will lose.

With that money.. damn dude, can't you read? Let me guess, some grandpa died and left you a ton of money.. you definitly didn't earn it yourself. Some day when I inherit money from a rich relative I'm going to spend $300k on a car (which is absolutely disgusting as is) and go laugh at people who drive Civics. I've driven a Murcury Capri (runs 11's), rode in a Viper GTS and supercharged Camaro. Proffessionals ran the Gallardo at 12.2 in the 1/4.

You guys got some knowledge.

I wa gonna get a spoon engine until I heard you have to break the engine down to change the oil.
I'm not a track racer, i'm not even a street racer because my car is so sloooowwww. I got a 95 4 dr civ dx. I want to put an h22a in my car because it has the most bang for the buck (200hp vtec & 220hp type S). From what I read the h22a will weight more causing more understeer.

So how do I get around this problem. I want torque as well as precise steering. What engine is built to the same standards as spoon engine, but made for "non-professional" street racers.

you dont have to break down the engine to change oil in a spoon. you change it the same way you do in any other engine.

if anyone cares, the correct power numbers from the manufacturer would be

b16a 158hp/111tq
b16a1 150hp/109tq
b16a2 158hp/113tq
b16a4 170hp/116tq
b16b 180hp/115tq
b17a 160hp/117tq
b18a1 130hp/126tq or 140hp/121tq
b18b1 142hp/127tq
b18c(jdmR) 200hp/134tq
b18c1 170hp/128tq
b18c2 167hp/128tq
b18c3 193/127
b18c4 169/127
b18c5 195/127
b18c6 190/131

also, if you have a lamborgini why are you on this pos forum? the answer is because you're either the dumbest lamborgini owner ever or because you're the biggest loser that owns a lamborgini, either way, if you wanna talk about how your murcialago is bad ass go to hondatech or something so they can bust out 800 hp dyno graphs from a 13k car...not that horsepower is pussy power...any real lambo owner knows that...but you can basically trade 5hp for one pp :)
