2 weeks ago, I bought an 84 300ZX, non-turbo. Immediately replaced a bunch of parts- new battery, alternator, power steering line, all new hoses, belts, oil change, radiator flush, new cap and rotor, new platinum plugs and wires. Seemed to run fine, aside from a slightly rough idle. 3 days ago, drove 40 miles to a friends house. When I went to leave, it took appx 20 tries before it caught- always started 1st try before. When I applied the accelerator, it revved up and down between 14 and 2100 RPM's rapidly while I applied constant pressure. It dies, or tries to, when it gets above 2100 RPM's. After paying $160 for a tow home, I had a friend replace the MAP sensor and TPS sensor- this was the general concensus after conversing with several mechanic-type friends. No change at all. Needless to say, this is not only expensive, it's frustrating as hell. I'm not a gear-head, but I DO treat vehicles well and just want a nice, running Z. Any advice?:banghead:

maf sensor went on you most likely check the connections on it see that nothing got knocked or melted or anythign when you were changing around parts etc

Okay, think I did a typo. It's the mass airflow sensor I had replaced, not MAP. Like I said, I'm not the mechanical type.

not revving above 2k is a direct symptom of something being wrong with your MAF sensor. does the CEL come on on the dash? you could try running the ecu codes. (In the FSM or can be googled)

i replaced the mass airflow senson on my 85 300zx and still sometimes it would not rev above 2100rpm. i did notice that when this was the case the light on the overdrive switch would not come on either. wonder if there is a connection? i never could figure it out so i sold the car.
