Help with a seemingly dumb questionmwms71 04-02-2006, 02:00 PM Hello all, I have a 99 (new body style) k1500 with the 5.3l engine. I know this sounds dumb, but I can't figure out how to disconnect the battery cables. The electrical center/fuse box seems to be too close to the battery posts for me to get my socket on them. I have tried moving the battery around a little, (after taking off the hold down strap) but it seems like it does not want to move far. Do I just need to hoist it up more, or what? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks JOE RILLA 04-02-2006, 02:04 PM A socket is too big to fit in there, try using a 5/16" wrench . mwms71 04-02-2006, 02:13 PM Thanks. That makes sense. Of course, just checking my toolbox, I don't have a wrench less than 1/2 in my box. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go to Sears.. Thanks again. 03silveradoaby 04-02-2006, 02:14 PM Or pick-up a side terminal ratchet. Comes in very handy. firedawg81 04-02-2006, 02:50 PM Yeah I keep a craftsman 77 piece set under my back seat at all times. TexasF355F1 04-02-2006, 05:34 PM Make sure you have a rachet extender to reach the bolt that holds the battery in place. Just installed a new one last week actually. Took all of 15 minutes. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
