1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 4X4 5.3L Ext. Cab

Today while in Walmart's parking lot, I slowed down and cut the wheels to the right to park. Then I heard a bizarre grinding noise and the brakes would not work. When I left the lot, they worked fine. I think it is the ABS sensor needing cleaning. How would I go about doing this on a 4X4? Thanks for the help.

Interesting - If you live someplace salty, it may be the sensors. Chevy just had a recall on model year 2000 for ABS sensors. See if you have a freeby coming.

Any ABS brake lights on.
A good scan with a ABS capable scanner may point to the root problem.
Could be a sensor or could other stuff to. The old scanner will point you in the right direction. if you can get any codes post back codes.
And like said a recall may be the fix. Have your dealer run your vin no for recalls and TSB's on it.

Maine winters are usually very salty. There are no lights on, but my brother does have a scan tool. I'll see if he'll do it Saturday. I'll check on the recalls and see if I'm covered or not. Thanks for the replies!
