I have a 98 regal gs, and I have lately notice a noise like a bearing going.
It seems to make noise when the car starts, and goes away once the a/c kicks in. I have 137k miles on the car. Any ideas what to look at on this?
Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Ron

Actually it is quite possible that the problem is with the tensioner or another pulley rather than the bearing on the AC. When the AC kicks on the belt tightens slightly due to the extra drag from the compressor so check the tensioner first. If it turns out to be the AC it is probably the clutch that has warn and is making the noise. Don't worry too much about it unless the compressor stops working altogether. These things make noise all the time but keep on working correctly.

I agree with Lynn. It doesn't sound like the AC compressor but something else in the drive belt and tensioning system but you never know.

Like he said if it is the compressor clutch run it until it fails. It is PITA to do DIY and will have a big repair bill tag having the work done by a Pro.

Thanks guys you are all always so helpful on this forum.
The tension assembly isn't too hard to replace is it?
Any tips?

thanks,
Ron
