I read some of the other threads and some other info is when the truck shuts off the service engine soon light does not come on. The fuel pump does cycle on and off and the service engine soon light comes on and stays on. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks

What colour are the plugs? If they are a dusty whiteish or grey then the engine is burning too lean, which leads to very hot head temps which can cause engine pinging or pre-detonation which will cause it to shut down. All of which is very bad on the engine, maybe the check engine cycle is not functioning properly and not showing the check engine failure, the engine could be reaching a too-hot-to-function properly temp and cutting out. The temp gauge may not rise to the red even in that case (in rare cases), the plugs will tell you what's going on in there. There may also be a wire that has landed onto your exhaust\exhaust headers\engine block\rad which melts when the engine gets hot, the plastic liquifies and the wire grounds out, shorting the system (something major, ignition related most likely or ECM) causing a stall, the plastic cools and re-hardens possibly blocking the copper from grounding and then it starts fine. It's a long shot but it's something.

You probably have already fixed this by now but if not, we chased the same problem for almost a year before we found that the wire harness from the Brain to the CPI unit was the problem. Bought a GM harness repair kit for <$100 and problem solved.
