Backup lamp and brake light problem.

Neither the backup lamps nor the brake lights are now working on my pickup. The brake lights used to work but stopped working recently. The lamps will still light up when the turn signal is on, though. As for the backup lamps, I cannot remember them ever working. The bulbs are still good, as I tested them in the sockets with the turn signal going. Any ideas??

You may want to test the brake switch at the pedal by removing the switch from the mount, be carefull, it's plastic and the clips break easy, use a light tester and test the wires in and out. They should both be hot. If only one side is hot then the switch is bad. If so, replace it, but do not press the plunger in by hand, it adjusts itself to the pedal and is a one time setting. If you push it in first you cannot reset it for the pedal.

pickups are notorious for taillight problems. check connections starting from the sockets foreward.
