1987 ford mercury tracer LS

hey there i need some help with my gas tank/fuel pump, i dropped my gas tank and found out that i hit it with a large rock and it pushed a rod right through the bottom of the tank, does anyone know if the fuel pump is in the gas tank?, or is it on the motor?
