1989 z24 Cavalier--Son want's as Drive Carrduenas 03-26-2006, 11:58 AM This Car is going to be driven by our Son. we have a 1989 Z24 Cavalier that has a problem. Looking for some advice. Vehicle starts and runs Fine! It is after you are driving or the engine warms up a while and you come to a Stop or Traffic signal the engine starts to dump idle and eventually Stops the Engine. I Place it back in Neutral or Park, engine starts with no problem. I have tried to idle engine so it won't shut off when coming to a stop or Traffic light while pressing the Brake and this helps with the engine not shutting off. Our Son's set on this car since it is the Year that he was Born. This a big thing for Him and I'd like to make it right by fixing it. One more thing, Engine light does come on and I believe the error code is 24 or 48! CavRacer 03-26-2006, 04:08 PM The first thing to check is the idle. When an engine gets warm they usually idle at lower rpms than when they are cold. If the rpm's drop below a sustainable amount the engine will die. 94VL 03-26-2006, 09:12 PM Try the torque converter solenoid. Its a popular J body malady. If the lock up converter never releases, its like stalling a manual transmission car. rduenas 03-28-2006, 01:31 AM Hey, Thanks but is the Troque Converter the one located on the side of the Tranny? This was the cause of the unit shutting off Once. I replaced it and took care of problem. I did replace it again thinking this was the cause, but turns out it wasn't. Thanks anymore ideas? We really appreciate it! By the way, this is on an automatic Tranny. rduenas 03-28-2006, 01:35 AM Thanks for the vine Cavracer, Any other Clues as to what is causing this? Engine works and idles just fine when in Neutral or Park. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
